A damper assembly for controlling the flow of fluid through a duct, comprisinga support base for external mounting to a side of a duct, said support base having inner and outer sides,a damper vane mount fixed with respect to said support base and extending inwardly from said support base said damper vane mount having an inner end for positioning within said duct,a damper vane mounted to said inner end of said damper vane mount for movement between open and closed positions, said damper vane being located inwardly of said inner side of said support base for positioning interiorly of the duct when said support base is mounted to the duct,an actuator mounted to said support base, including an actuator member having a longitudinal axis extending generally parallel to said damper vane mount and operatively connected to said damper vane and longitudinally movable for moving said damper vane between said open and closed positions, andwherein said support base includes a closure for closing an access opening in a side wall of the duct of sufficient size to permit insertion of said damper vane therethrough.
