1. A method of making a removable masking tape suitable for protecting a surface of a substrate having irregular contours, comprising(a) providing a polymeric tape that is flexible, stretchable, compressible and deformable for conforming to a contour of the surface having substantial planar curvature without departing from the contour when said masking tape is applied to the surface of the substrate;

  • and(b) rendering the polymeric tape capable of adhering to the surface of the substrate, wherein the polymeric tape contains a polyvinyl acetate resin and is water soluble.
