Abstract

A hinge device comprising a shaft to be connected at one end to a first member, a bracket mounted on the shaft, for supporting a second member such that the second member rotates around said shaft, and wave washers held and compressed between said shaft and said support means. The wave washers generates a friction between said shaft and the second member when the first and second members are rotated relative to each other around said shaft, thus suppressing the rotation of the first and second members.

Claims

1. A portable apparatus comprising:

a first section;

a second section; and

means for coupling the second section to the first section, the coupling means comprising;

a shaft having a first portion and a second portion, the second portion being connected to the second section;

a first member, being disposed about the shaft, having a first contact surface and a second contact surface, the second contact surface being disposed opposite to the first contact surface;

a second member being connected to the first section and disposed about the first portion, thereby rotatably connecting the shaft to the first section, the second member having a third contact surface which is disposed so as to oppose the second contact surface; and

at least one ring-shaped spring, being disposed between the second contact surface and the third contact surface, for suppressing rotation of the first section, relative to the second section, about the shaft, the second contact surface and the third contact surface extending further from the shaft than the at least one ring-shaped spring.

A portable apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the shaft has a first diameter portion and a second diameter portion, the first diameter portion having a first diameter, the second diameter portion having a second diameter which is smaller than the first diameter, the first diameter portion being disposed proximate to the second diameter portion, thereby forming an edge.

3. A portable apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the second member is disposed about the second diameter portion.

4. A portable apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the first member is removably disposed about the second diameter portion so that the first contact surface is in contact with the edge.

5. A portable apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the first member is conjoined with the shaft.

6. A hinge device for rotatably coupling a first section and a second section, the device comprising:

a shaft connected to the second section;

a first member, being disposed about the shaft, having a first contact surface and a second contact surface, the second contact surface being disposed opposite to the first contact surface;

a second member being connected to the first section and disposed about the shaft, thereby rotatably connecting the shaft to the first section, the second member having a third contact surface which is disposed so as to oppose the second contact surface; and

at least one ring-shaped spring, being disposed between the second contact surface and the third contact surface, for suppressing rotation of the first section, relative to the second section, about the shaft, the second contact surface and the third contact surface extending further from the shaft than the at least one ring-shaped spring.

A hinge device according to claim 6, wherein the shaft has a first diameter portion and a second diameter portion, the first diameter portion having a first diameter, the second diameter portion having a second diameter which is smaller than the first diameter, the first diameter portion being disposed proximate to the second diameter portion, thereby forming an edge.

8. A hinge device according to claim 7, wherein the first member and the second member are disposed about the second diameter portion.

9. A portable apparatus according to claim 7, wherein the first member is removably disposed about the second diameter portion so that the first contact surface is in contact with the edge.

10. A hinge device according to claim 6, wherein the first member is conjoined with the shaft.

11. A hinge device according to claim 6, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a wave washer.

12. A hinge device according to claim 6, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a belleville spring.

13. A portable apparatus comprising:

a first section;

a second section; and

means for coupling the second section to the first section, the coupling means comprising;

a shaft having a first portion a second portion and a third portion, the third portion being disposed between the first portion and the second portion, the first portion being connected to the second section, the third portion having a first contact surface;

a member being connected to the first section and disposed about the second portion, thereby rotatably connecting the shaft to the first section, the second member having a second contact surface which is disposed so as to oppose the first contact surface; and

at least one ring-shaped spring, being disposed between the first contact surface and second contact surface, for suppressing rotation of the first section, relative to the second section, about the second portion, the first contact surface and the second contact surface extending further from the shaft than the at least one ring-shaped spring.

14. A portable apparatus according to claim 13, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a wave washer.

15. A portable apparatus according to claim 13, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a belleville spring.

16. A portable apparatus according to claim 13, wherein the member further includes:

a first bracket for connecting the member to the first section; and

a shaft coupling portion for rotatably coupling the member to the shaft.

17. A portable apparatus according to claim 13, wherein the second section includes a second bracket, the second bracket having a shaft mounting portion, and wherein the shaft has a bracket mounting portion which is removably attached to the shaft mounting portion.

18. A portable apparatus according to claim 13, further comprising a stopper, being connected to the second portion, for preventing the removal of the member from the second portion.

19. A portable apparatus comprising:

first and second sections; and

means for coupling the second section to the first section, comprising;

a shaft, fixed to the second section, including;

a first diameter portion including a first diameter; and

a second diameter portion including a second diameter which is smaller than the first diameter, the second diameter portion disposed proximate to the first diameter portion so as to form an edge portion;

a first member, removably disposed about the shaft so as to allow for replacement of the fist member without requiring replacement of the shaft, including;

a first contact surface which is disposed so as to contact the edge portion; and

a second contact surface disposed opposite to the first contact surface, the second contact surface including a portion that projects in a radial direction from the shaft;

a second member, fixed to the first section and disposed about the second diameter portion of the shaft so as to be proximate to the first member, including a third contact surface which opposes the second contact surface of the fist member, the third contact surface including a portion that projects in the radial direction from the shaft; and

at least one ring-shaped spring, disposed between the second and third contact surfaces, for suppressing rotation of the first section around the shaft when the first section rotates relative to the second section.

20. A portable apparatus according to claim 19, wherein the second diameter portion further comprises an end portion including a stopper, attached thereto, for preventing the second member from moving along the axis of rotation of the shaft.

21. A portable apparatus according to claim 19, wherein one of the at least one ring-shaped spring is a wave washer.

22. A portable apparatus according to claim 19, wherein one of the at least one ring-shaped spring is a belleville spring.

23. A portable apparatus according to claim 19, wherein:

the second member further comprises;

a first bracket coupled to the first section; and

a shaft coupling portion; and

the shaft further includes a coupling portion rotatably coupling the first section at the shaft coupling portion.

24. A portable apparatus according to claim 19, wherein:

the second section comprises a second bracket including a shaft mounting portion; and

the shaft further includes a second mounting portion removably fixed to the shaft mounting portion.

25. A hinge device for rotatably connecting a first section and a second section, the device comprising:

a shaft including a first coupling portion;

a first member including a first surface and a second surface disposed opposite to the first surface, the first member being removably disposed about the shaft so as to allow for replacement of the first member without requiring replacement of the shaft;

a second member, fixed to the first section, including a third surface which is disposed so as to oppose the second surface, the second member being disposed about the shaft;

a bracket, fixed to the second section, comprising a shaft mounting portion which is fixed to the first coupling portion of the shaft; and

at least one ring-shaped spring, disposed between the second and third surfaces, for suppressing rotation of the first section around the shaft when the first section rotates relative to the second section.

26. A hinge device according to claim 25, wherein the second diameter portion further comprises an end portion including a stopper, attached thereto, for preventing the second member from moving along the axis of rotation of the shaft.

27. A hinge device according to claim 25, wherein one of the at least one ring-shaped spring is a wave washer.

28. A hinge device according to claim 25, wherein one of the at least one ring-shaped is a belleville spring.

29. A hinge device according to claim 25, wherein:

the second member further includes a shaft coupling portion; and

the shaft further includes a first coupling portion coupling the first section at the shaft coupling portion.

30. A hinge device according to claim 25, wherein the shaft further comprises:

a first diameter portion including a first diameter; and

a second diameter portion including a second diameter which is smaller than the first diameter.

31. A portable apparatus comprising:

a first section;

a second section; and

means for coupling the second section to the first section, the coupling means comprising;

a shaft fixed to the second section;

a first member, disposed about the shaft, including;

a first surface; and

a second surface disposed opposite to the first surface;

a second member, fixed to the first section and rotatably disposed about the shaft and proximate to the first member, the second member including a third surface which opposes the second surface of the first member; and

at least one ring-shaped spring, disposed between the second and third surfaces, for suppressing rotation of the first section around the shaft when the first section rotates relative to the second section, the second surface and the third surface extending further from the shaft than the at least one ring-shaped spring.

32. A portable apparatus according to claim 31, wherein the first member is conjoined with the shaft.

33. A portable apparatus according to claim 31, wherein the first member is removably attached to the second diameter portion.

34. A portable apparatus according to claim 31, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a wave washer.

35. A portable apparatus according to claim 31, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a belleville spring.

36. A portable apparatus according to claim 31, wherein the shaft includes:

a first diameter portion including a first diameter; and

a second diameter portion including a second diameter which is smaller than the first diameter.

37. A portable apparatus comprising:

first and second sections; and

means for coupling the second section to the first section, comprising;

a shaft, fixed to the second section, including;

a first diameter portion including a first diameter, and

a second diameter portion including a second diameter which is smaller than the first diameter, the second diameter portion disposed proximate to the first diameter portion so as to form an edge portion;

a first member, disposed about the shaft, including;

a first contact surface which is disposed so as to contact the edge portion; and

a second contact surface disposed opposite to the first contact surface;

a second member, fixed to the first section and disposed about the second diameter portion of the shaft so as to be proximate to the first member, including a third contact surface which opposes the second contact surface of the first member; and

at least one ring-shaped spring, disposed between the second and third contact surfaces, for suppressing rotation of the first second around the shaft when the first section rotates relative to the second section, the second contact surface and the third contact surface extending further from the shaft than the at least one ring-shaped spring.

38. A portable apparatus according to claim 37, wherein the first member is conjoined with the shaft.

39. A portable apparatus according to claim 37, wherein the first member is removably attached to the second diameter portion.

40. A portable apparatus according to claim 37, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a wave washer.

41. A portable apparatus according to claim 37, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a belleville spring.

42. A portable apparatus comprising:

a first section;

a second section; and

means for coupling the second section to the first section, the coupling means comprising;

a shaft including a first portion and a second portion, the second portion being connected to the second section;

a first member, being disposed about the shaft, including a first surface and a second surface, the second surface being disposed opposite to the first surface;

a second member being connected to the first section and disposed about the first portion, thereby rotatably connecting the shaft to the first section, the second member including a third surface which is disposed so as to oppose the second surface; and

at least one ring-shaped spring, being disposed between the second surface and the third surface, for suppressing rotation of the first section, relative to the second section, about the shaft, the second surface and the third surface extending further from the shaft than the at least one ring-shaped spring.

43. A portable apparatus according to claim 42, wherein the shaft further includes a first diameter portion and a second diameter portion, the first diameter portion including a first diameter, the second diameter portion including a second diameter which is smaller then the first diameter, the first diameter portion being disposed proximate to the second diameter portion, thereby forming an edge.

44. A portable apparatus according to claim 43, wherein the second member is disposed about the second diameter portion.

45. A portable apparatus according to claim 44, wherein the first member is removably disposed about the second diameter portion so that the first surface is in contact with the edge.

46. A portable apparatus according to claim 42, wherein the first member is conjoined with the shaft.

47. A hinge device for rotatably coupling a first section and a second section, the device comprising:

a shaft connected to the second section;

a first member, being disposed about the shaft, including a first surface and a second surface, the second surface being disposed opposite to the first surface;

a second member being connected to the first section and disposed about the shaft, thereby rotatably connecting the shaft to the first section, the second member including a third surface which is disposed so as to oppose the second surface; and

at least one ring-shaped spring, being disposed between the second surface and the third surface, for suppressing rotation of the first section, relative to the second section, about the shaft, the second surface and the third surface extending further from the shaft than the at least one ring-shaped spring.

48. A hinge device according to claim 47, wherein the shaft includes a first diameter portion and a second diameter portion, the first diameter portion including a first diameter, the second diameter portion including a second diameter which is smaller than the first diameter, the first diameter portion being disposed proximate to the second diameter portion, thereby forming an edge.

49. A hinge device according to claim 48, wherein the first member and the second member are disposed about the second diameter portion.

50. A hinge device according to claim 48, wherein the first member is removably disposed about the second diameter portion so that the first surface is in contact with the edge.

51. A hinge device according to claim 47, wherein the first member is conjoined with the shaft.

52. A hinge device according to claim 47, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a wave washer.

53. A hinge device according to claim 47, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a belleville spring.

54. A portable apparatus comprising:

a first section;

a second section; and

means for coupling the second section to the first section, the coupling means comprising;

a shaft including a first portion, a second portion and a third portion, the third portion being disposed between the first portion and the second portion, the first portion being connected to the second section, the third portion including a first surface;

a member disposed about the second portion, the member including a second surface which is disposed so as to oppose the first surface; and

at least one ring-shaped spring, disposed between the first surface and second surface, for suppressing rotation of the first section, relative to the second section, about the second portion, the first surface and the second surface extending further from the shaft than the at least one ring-shaped spring.

55. A portable apparatus according to claim 54, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a wave washer.

56. A portable apparatus according to claim 54, wherein the at least one ring-shaped spring includes a belleville spring.

57. A portable apparatus according to claim 54, wherein the member further includes:

a first bracket for connecting the member to the first section; and

a shaft coupling portion for rotatably coupling the member to the shaft.

58. A portable apparatus according to claim 54, wherein the second section includes a second bracket, the second bracket including a shaft mounting portion, and wherein the shaft further includes a bracket mounting portion which is removably attached to the shaft mounting portion.

59. A portable apparatus according to claim 54, further comprising a stopper, connected to the second portion, for preventing the removal of the member from the second portion.
