Micromanipulation of waveforms in a sampling music synthesizer
First Claim
1. A method for producing a sound of a plurality of a selected instrument from a digitized audio sample of the selected instrument, comprising the steps of:
- storing the digitized audio sample of the single selected instrument in a memory;
micromanipulating copies of the digitized audio sample in parallel in a plurality of digital processors corresponding in number to the plurality of the selected instrument, each digital processor processing the digital audio sample in a slightly different time variant manner;
summing the processed digital audio samples;
converting the summed digital audio sample to an analog signal and sending the analog signal to a speaker to produce the sound of the plurality of the selected instrument.

Abstract
A technique for producing a sound of a plurality of a selected instrument from a digitized audio sample of the selected instrument. The digitized audio sample of the single selected instrument is stored in a memory. Next, copies of the digitized audio sample are micromanipulated in parallel in a plurality of digital processors corresponding in number to the plurality of the selected instrument. Each of the digital processors processes the digital audio sample in a slightly different time variant manner to produce the effect of a plurality of instruments. The processed digital audio samples are summed into a single digital sample. The summed digital audio sample is converted to an analog signal which is sent to a speaker to produce the sound of the plurality of the selected instrument.

13. A system for controlling the generation of the sound of a plurality of a selected instrument from a digitized audio sample of the selected instrument, comprising:
-
means for selecting the digitized audio sample from a memory; means for selecting a number of the plurality of the selected instrument; means for micromanipulating a corresponding number of copies of the digitized audio sample in parallel according to the number of the plurality of the selected instrument; and means for converting the micromanipulated copies of the digitized audio sample into a analog signal of the plurality of the selected instrument; a speaker for receiving the analog signal and for producing the sound of the plurality of the selected instrument.
