1. A method of detecting high impedance faults occurring on a distribution circuit coupled to an AC power source, comprising the steps of:

  • analyzing a parameter of power flowing over the distribution circuit using a set of fault detection techniques each providing a number of fault indications;

    weighting the number of fault indications from each fault detection technique, wherein the weighting step comprisesweighting the number of fault indications from each fault detection technique according to an elliptical formula,initially assigning a weight to the number of fault indications from each fault detection technique, andadjusting the assigned weight of any fault detection technique having more than one fault indication; and

    combining the weighted number of fault indications from each fault detection technique to determine whether high impedance fault has occurred.
