Stent
First Claim
1. A stent comprising, a self-expandable cylindrical body made from a single piece of material, the stent having a longitudinal dimension, said cylindrical body including a plurality of closed windings and strips intermediate the closed windings such that said stent is prevented from expanding generally in the direction of said longitudinal dimension, said self-expandable cylindrical body exhibiting at least a spring-like behavioral component in a radial direction upon self-expanding from a first radially-constrained unexpanded geometry, to a second radially-unconstrained expanded geometry.

Abstract
A stent comprising a self-expandable cylindrical body constructed out a single integral piece of material, including a plurality of wavy closed windings and strips interconnecting the windings such that the stent is prevented from stretching longitudinally is provided. The stent is self-expandable from a first radially-constrained, unexpanded diameter to a second, radially-unconstrained, expanded diameter. The stent can be implanted within a body cavity of an animal to maintain patency thereof.

9. A system for positioning in a body cavity a self-expandable stent, comprising:
-
an instrument for deployment of a self-expanding stent by releasably holding therein the stent in a first radially-constrained unexpanded geometry; and a self-expanding stent releasably held by said instrument, said stent comprising, a self-expandable cylindrical body formed by a continuous wire, the stent having a longitudinal dimension, said cylindrical body including a plurality of closed windings and strips intermediate the closed windings such that said stent is prevented from expanding generally in the direction of said longitudinal dimension, said self-expandable cylindrical body exhibiting at least a spring-like behavioral component in a radial direction upon self-expanding from the first radially-constrained unexpanded geometry, to a second radially-unconstrained expanded geometry. - View Dependent Claims (10)
