Catheter with NiTi tubular shaft
First Claim
1. A dilatation catheter for performing an angioplasty procedure, comprising:
- a) an elongated catheter having a proximal shaft section and a distal shaft section;
b) an inner lumen extending through the proximal shaft section and into the distal shaft section;
c) a tubular element formed of a NiTi alloy which defines at least in part the inner lumen extending through the proximal shaft section; and
d) an inflatable dilatation balloon on the distal shaft section having an interior in fluid communication with the inner lumen extending within the distal shaft section.

Abstract
A low-profile steerable dilatation catheter for angioplasty procedures which has an inflated balloon on the distal end with little or no tendency to wrap on itself when the catheter is advanced through a patient'"'"'s vascular system. The catheter comprises an elongated tubular member which is longitudinally relatively flexible but diametrically relatively rigid, a guide extension secured to the distal end of the elongated tubular member, and an inflatable balloon secured on the proximal end thereof to the distal end of the elongated tubular member and on the distal end directly or indirectly to the guide member or the tubular member and an elongated flexible member such as a helical coil secured to the guide extension distally of the balloon. The elongated tubular member is preferably a hypotube of stainless steel or nitinol.

6. An intravascular catheter having an elongated catheter shaft comprising
a distal shaft portion which has a balloon with an interior thereon and a first inner lumen extending therein in fluid communication with the interior of the balloon; - and
a proximal shaft portion which has a inner lumen extending therein which is in fluid communication with the first inner lumen of the distal shaft section and which is formed at least in part by a tubular element with at least part of the second inner lumen extending therethrough and formed of NiTi alloy. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8)
