1. A two-component hair relaxer system for producing an alkaline hydroxide relaxer for relaxing hair comprising:

  • (a) a first component comprising a water-containing cream base containing a water-soluble salt of a relatively strong base selected from the group consisting of quanidine and N-methyl guanidine with an anion capable of being precipitated by an alkaline earth metal ion under highly alkaline conditions, and(b) a second, separate component, which is substantially free of water, and containing an alkaline material which is an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, an alkaline earth metal oxide, or a mixture thereof having an alkaline earth metal ion which forms a precipitate with the anion when the first component and second component are mixed.
