1. A method of reducing waste energy in a system for communicating using a first station with a first plurality of second stations using a phased array antenna, comprising the steps of:

  • generating a first plurality of signals for transmission to said second stations using radiowave modulation;

    combining said first plurality of signals to produce a second plurality of signals, said combined signals being complex-weighted sums of said first plurality of signals, wherein the number of said second plurality of signals is equal to a number of antenna arrays disposed along a first dimension of said phased array antenna;

    generating a third plurality of signals from said second plurality of signals associated with different groups of elements disposed along a second dimension of said phased array antenna;

    amplifying said third plurality of signals to produce wanted and unwanted signals; and

    radiating said wanted signals in desired directions and said unwanted signals in other directions.
