Human range of motion measurement system
First Claim
1. A modular ROM measurement system comprising:
- a transometer having a horizontal support surface on which are mounted a magnetic north seeking means, a leveling means for measurement in a transverse plane, and, releasably attached to the horizontal support surface, at least one additional modular component selected from the group of components consisting of an inclinometer for determining a degree of inclination of the horizontal support surface from the horizontal, a headband, a stabilizer plate, one or more elastic bands, one or more vertical mode plates selected from a group of plates consisting of a thorax plate and an extremity plate, one or more soft level adjusting means;
whereby each of the modular components from the above said group of components may be releasably and temporarily interengaged with one another and the horizontal support surface of the transometer, so thata plurality of separate instrument configurations may each be temporarily assembled for performing a specific ROM measurement function, and then be disassembled for compact storage or for reassembly into the same or different instrument configurations.

Abstract
A modular ROM measurement system is disclosed. A transometer has a horizontal support surface on which are mounted a magnetic north seeking means and a leveling means for measurement in a transverse plane. Releasably attached to the horizontal support surface is at least one additional modular component selected from the group of components consisting of an inclinometer for determining degree of inclination of the horizontal support surface from the horizontal, a headband, a stabilizer plate, one or more elastic bands, one or more vertical mode plates selected from the group of plates consisting of a thorax plate and an extremity plate, and one or more soft level adjusting means. Each of the modular components from the above group of components may be releasably and temporarily interengaged with one another and the horizontal support surface of the transometer, so that a plurality of separate instrument configurations may each be temporarily assembled for performing a specific ROM measurement function, and then be disassembled for compact storage or for reassembly into the sake or different instrument configurations.

3. A transometer having a horizontal support surface on which are mounted a magnetic north seeking means and leveling means for measurement in a transverse plane, the horizontal support surface having a structure formed from a lip bent under said horizontal support surface to define a slot therebetween;
- and the transometer further comprising a vertical mode plate, said plate having a right angle projection, said projection having a structure formed from a lip bent over said projection to define a slot therebetween, whereby the respective structures may be removably interengaged with one another;
whereby said transometer may be used in a vertical modality when it is interengaged with the vertical mode plate, or in a horizontal modality when disengaged from a vertical mode plate. - View Dependent Claims (4, 5, 6)

-
7. A stabilizer bar for use with a transometer in vertical modality for horizontally stabilizing the transometer, the transometer having a horizontal support surface on which are mounted a magnetic north seeking means and a leveling means for measurement in a transverse plane, said transometer having a structure formed from a lip bent under said horizontal support surface to define a slot therebetween, and further in combination with a vertical mode plate, said plate having a right angle projection, said projection having a structure formed from a lip bent over said projection to define a slot therebetween, whereby the respective structures are interengaged with one another;
- whereby said transomelet is interengaged with the vertical mode plate, said stabilizer bar releasably interengaged with said transomelet and vertical mode plate.

8. A method of ROM measurement for eliminating patient compensation error comprising the following steps:
-
a) selecting a measurement site at which ROM is to be measured on a patient; b) selecting at least one modular component and removably and temporarily attaching the component to a horizontal support surface of a transometer to form a first ROM measurement device; c) applying the first ROM measurement device having anatomical zeroing means to a reference site and zeroing said device; d) applying a second ROM measurement device having anatomical zeroing means to a reference site and zeroing said device; e) causing patient to move through a ROM to a ROM endpoint, and recording the angular readings of both measurement devices; f) subtracting the reading from the second device from the reading of the first device to arrive at a true ROM reading for the patient at the measurement site; g) removing all modular components from the transometer.
