Abstract

An image processing system comprises an image shifting circuit for shifting an image by processing an input video signal, a scene-change detecting circuit for detecting the presence or absence of a scene change in the input video signal, and a control circuit for controlling the amount in which the image is shifted by the image shifting circuit, according to the presence or absence of the scene change detected by the scene-change detecting circuit.

Claims

1. An image-shake correcting system comprising:

image-shake correcting means for detecting a motion vector from an image signal and correcting a shake of an image on the basis of the detected motion vector;

detecting means for detecting a signal component of an area superimposed on the image signal, the superimposed area being different from the image; and

control means for varying image-shake correction processing to be executed by said image-shake correcting means, according to a detection result provided by said detecting means.

2. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 1, wherein said image-shake correcting means detects a plurality of motion vectors from a plurality of areas of an image plane and corrects the shake of the image on the basis of the detected plurality of motion vectors.

3. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 2, wherein said control means varies the image-shake correction processing for each of the plurality of areas according to the detection result as to superimposed areas detected by said detecting means.

4. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 3, wherein said control means makes an image-shake correcting operation less effective on the superimposed areas.

5. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 1, wherein said detecting means includes:

first detecting means for detecting an edge strength of the image on the basis of the image signal;

second detecting means for detecting a luminance of the image signal; and

coding means for coding the image signal on the basis of the edge strength of the image detected by said first detecting means and the luminance of the image signal detected by said second detecting means.

6. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 1, wherein said detecting means includes:

first detecting means for detecting an amount of motion of the image on the basis of the image signal;

second detecting means for detecting a luminance of the image signal; and

coding means for coding the image signal on the basis of the amount of motion of the image detected by said first detecting means and the luminance of the image signal detected by said second detecting means.

7. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 1, wherein said detecting means includes:

first detecting means for detecting an amount of motion of the image on the basis of the image signal;

second detecting means for detecting an edge strength of the image on the basis of the image signal; and

coding means for coding the image signal on the basis of the amount of motion of the image detected by said first detecting means and the edge strength of the image detected by said second detecting means.

8. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 5, 6 or 7, wherein the image superimposed on the image signal, which is detected by said detecting means, is an image such as a character or a symbol.

9. An image-shake correcting system comprising:

image-shake correcting means for detecting a motion vector from a video signal and correcting a shake of an image on the basis of the detected motion vector;

detecting means for detecting an area superimposed on the video signal said superimposed area being different from the image; and

control means for providing control to stop image-shake correcting processing performed by said image-shake correcting means, according to a detection result provided by said detecting means.

10. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 9, wherein said control means does not perform image-shake correction on the superimposed area.

11. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 9, wherein said image-shake correcting means detects a plurality of motion vectors from a plurality of areas of an image plane and corrects the shake of the image on the basis of the detected plurality of motion vectors.

12. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 11, wherein said control means varies the image-shake correcting processing for each of the plurality of areas according to the detection result as to superimposed areas detected by said detecting means.

13. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 9, wherein said detecting means includes:

first detecting means for detecting an edge strength of the image on the basis of the video signal;

second detecting means for detecting a luminance of the video signal; and

coding means for coding the video signal on the basis of the edge strength of the image detected by said first detecting means and the luminance of the video signal detected by said second detecting means.

14. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 9, wherein said detecting means includes:

first detecting means for detecting an amount of motion of the image on the basis of the video signal;

second detecting means for detecting a luminance of the video signal; and

coding means for coding the video signal on the basis of the amount of motion of the image detected by said first detecting means and the luminance of the video signal detected by said second detecting means.

15. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 9, wherein said detecting means includes:

first detecting means for detecting an amount of motion of the image on the basis of the video signal;

second detecting means for detecting an edge strength of the image on the basis of the video signal; and

coding means for coding the video signal on the basis of the amount of motion of the image detected by said first detecting means and the edge strength of the image detected by said second detecting means.

16. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 13, 14 or 15, wherein the image superimposed on the video signal, which is detected by said detecting means, is an image such as a character or a symbol.

17. A image shake-correcting system comprising:

(A) motion detecting means for detecting a motion vector from an input image signal;

(B) motion correcting means for correcting a motion of an image according to the motion vector detected by said motion detecting means;

(C) detecting means for detecting a particular signal area from the input image signal, the particular signal area being different from the image; and

(D) control means for varying an operation of said motion correcting means with respect to the particular signal area detected by said detecting means.

18. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 17, wherein the particular signal area is an area on which a character is superimposed.

19. An image-shake correcting system according to claim 18, wherein said control means makes less effective or stops the operation of said motion correcting means with respect to the particular signal area.
