Abstract
A golf ball employing a cover composition comprising an oxa acid compound having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is an organic moiety selected from the group consisting of alkyl, carbocyclic, and heterocyclic groups. Additionally, the present invention is directed towards a golf ball cover composition comprising a copolymer of at least two comonomers, the first comonomer comprising an oxa acid composition of Formula I, and the second comonomer is selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes, epoxy resins, polyethylenes, polyamides, polyesters, and a monomer having a carboxylic acid moiety or its corresponding ionomer. Golf balls employing the present cover compositions exhibit excellent spin characteristics as well as good shear resistance.
