1. Apparatus for measuring a concentration of a contaminant in a fluid, comprising;

  • a measuring chamber provided in a fluid path,a first source of optical radiation of a predetermined wavelength for directing said radiation through said measuring chamber,detector means to detect the radiation after passage through the measuring chamber,pump means provided in the fluid path to urge a test fluid from a fluid source to said measuring chamber, said test fluid being subject to containing said contaminant,fluid processing means provided in the fluid path to process said fluid to change an optical effect of said contaminant,acid washing means provided in the fluid path to inhibit the effect of precipitation of cations within the fluid path,bypass means provided in the fluid path to bypass said fluid processing means, andvalve means provided in the fluid path alternately to direct said fluid to said fluid processing means and said bypass means.
