1. An electronic safety device for occupants of a vehicle including an acceleration-sensitive sensor and at least one inertial restraining device, the safety device comprising:

  • a control unit coupled to the acceleration-sensitive sensor, the control unit including at least one microcomputer;

    at least one output stage coupled to the control unit and controlling the at least one inertial restraining device, the at least one output stage including a squib; and

    a memory device coupled to the at least one microcomputer, at least one fault condition of the electronic safety device and at least one associated control command being stored in the memory device, wherein the at least one inertial restraining device is activated in accordance with the at least one control command when the at least one fault condition occurs.
