First Claim
1. A solid polymer electrolyte comprising a composite of:
- (a) a polymeric component, wherein said polymeric component comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of;
(i) a polymer obtained from at least one compound having alcoholic hydroxyl groups, wherein at least one hydrogen atom of said alcoholic hydroxy groups is replaced by a unit represented by general formula (X);

R2 represents a divalent organic group containing at least one oxyalkylene group and said organic group may be linear, branched or cyclic and may contain one or more atoms other than carbon, hydrogen or oxygen;
x and y each represents zero or an integer of between 1 and 5;
z represents zero or an integer of between 1 and 10, provided that z is zero when both x and y are zero;
wherein subunit {O(CH2)x (CH(CH3))y }z of said unit of formula (X) may comprise substituents (CH2) and (CH(CH3)) in various arrangements, provided that each of R1, R2, x, y and z of each said unit of formula (X) are as defined above and each unit may be the same or different; and
(ii) a copolymer comprising at least one of said compounds as a co-monomer; and
(b) at least one electrolyte salt.

Abstract
A solid polymer electrolyte comprising a composite of (a) a polymeric component which comprises (i) a polymer obtained from at least one compound represented by general formula (IA), (IIA) and/or (IIIA) as described in the specification; or (ii) a polymer obtained from at least one compound having alcoholic hydroxyl groups wherein at least one hydrogen atom of said alcoholic hydroxyl groups is replaced by a unit represented by general formula (X) or (XI) as described in the specification, and (b) at least one electrolyte salt, which has a high ionic conductivity and can be made into a thin film. The present invention is also directed to an electrode comprising the solid polymer electrolyte and an electroactive substance or polarizable material; as well as a process for manufacturing the same. In addition, the present invention is directed to a primary and secondary battery having the solid polymer electrolyte, as well as a process for manufacturing the same. The battery of the present invention has a high battery, has good cyclability. Finally, the present invention is directed to a solid-state electric double layer capacitor comprising the solid polymer electrolyte, as well as a process for manufacturing the same. The electric double layer capacitor has a high output voltage and a large take-out current.

52. A process for manufacturing an electric double layer capacitor which comprises the steps of:

(a) arranging a pair of polarizable electrodes so as to face each other, said electrodes comprising a carbon material and a polymeric component, wherein said polymeric component comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of;
(i) a polymer obtained from at least one compound represented by general formula (IA);

O)OR.sup.2 (IA)wherein R1 represents a hydrogen or a methyl group; R2 represents an organic chain containing at least one oxyalkylene group and said organic chain may be linear, branched or cyclic and may contain one or more atoms other than carbon, hydrogen or oxygen; x and y each represents zero or an integer of between 1 and 5; z represents zero or an integer of between 1 and 10, provided that z is zero when both x and y are zero;
wherein subunit {O(CH2)x (CH(CH3))y }z of said formula (IIA) may comprise substituents (CH2) and (CH(CH3)) in various arrangements; and(ii) a copolymer comprising at least one of said compounds as a co-monomer; (b) placing in between said facing electrodes a polymerizable monomer mixture comprising at least one compound represented by general formula (IA) and at least one electrolyte salt; and (c) polymerizing said polymerizable monomer mixture. - View Dependent Claims (53)
