Adaptive load cycler for controlled reduction of energy use
First Claim
1. In a method for reducing energy delivered by a utility to each of a plurality of energy usage devices representing but a proportion of total power consumption of each of a plurality of consumers wherein each said device has a variable demand for energy, there being a power source and means for delivering power to each said device, the steps comprising:
- a) measuring at least one of ambient temperature and humidity conditions;
b) measuring a selected one of average run time and average energy use of each said device over time intervals of predetermined duration;
c) generating a control signal to modify the power consumed by each said device when one of said ambient conditions exceeds a predetermined level; and
d) modifying a selected one of said run time and energy use by each said device by an amount correlated with one of said average run time and energy use measured in step b) herein when said control signal is generated.

Abstract
A method and system for regulating power delivered to specific appliances or loads which represent but a proportion of the power consumed by different commercial or residential users and in which each appliance or load has variable demands for power consumption, the method and system of the present invention being characterized by measuring the natural run time or average demand of an electrical appliance over a selected real time interval and reducing the run time or average demand of the appliance by an amount directly related to the run-time measurement or average demand measurement of each appliance during periods of peak demand.

13. In a method for reducing energy delivered by a utility to each of a plurality of energy usage devices including at least one auxiliary load device and at least variable load device representing a portion of the total power consumption of each of a plurality of consumers, there being a power source and means for delivering power to each said device, the steps comprising:
-
a) measuring at least one of outdoor ambient temperature and humidity conditions; b) measuring a selected one of average energy use and run time of each said variable load device over time intervals of predetermined duration; c) generating a control signal to modify the power consumed by each said variable load and auxiliary load device when at least one of said outdoor ambient conditions exceeds a predetermined level; d) modifying a selected one of said run time and energy use by each said variable load device by an amount correlated with one of said average run time and average energy use measured in step b) herein when said control signal is generated; and e) restricting the run time and energy use of each said auxiliary load device independently of said variable load device when said control signal is generated.

14. An adaptive load cycler for the controlled reduction of energy delivered by a utility to each of a plurality of energy usage devices which represent a portion of the total power consumption of each of a plurality of consumers wherein there is provided means for supplying power to each said device and each said device has a variable demand for energy, the combination therewith comprising:
-
a) first means for measuring a selected one of average run time and average energy use of each said device over time intervals of predetermined duration; b) second means for measuring a selected one of outdoor ambient temperature and humidity conditions; c) signal means for generating a control signal and transmitting said control signal to each said device whereby to modify the power consumed by each said device when at least one of said outdoor ambient temperature and humidity conditions exceeds a predetermined level; and d) logic control circuit means for modifying a selected one of said run time and energy use by each said device by an amount correlated with one of said average run time and energy use as measured by said first means when said control signal is generated. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17)
