Telephonic voice message transmission control method
First Claim
1. In a telephonic voice message apparatus having first and second voice message devices associated with respective origination and destination voice message addresses, a method of controlling by prior selections of a potential recipient from the destination voice message address a transmission of telephonic voice message data originating in response to input by a sender from the first voice message device associated with the origination voice message address and directed to the second voice message device associated with the destination voice message address, comprising:
- selectively providing in advance by the potential recipient for storage in the telephonic voice message apparatus a specified voice message transmission instruction for controlling transmission of telephonic voice message data directed to the destination voice message address;
generating in response to input by the sender telephonic voice message data associated with the origination voice message address;
initiating direction of the telephonic voice message data associated with the origination voice message address to the destination voice message address but not providing access by the second voice message device to the telephonic voice message data;
accessing within the telephonic voice message apparatus in response to the initiating of direction of the telephonic voice message data to the destination voice message address the stored specified voice message transmission instruction for controlling transmission of the telephonic voice message data originating from the first voice message device associated with the origination voice message address; and
processing the telephonic voice message data in accordance with the specified voice message transmission instruction.

Abstract
The present invention is directed to a method of controlling transmission of voice messages or information via telephonic voice message systems, which are sometimes referred to as Voice Mail systems. Users of the system selectively specify voice message transmission instructions for controlling transmission of voice messages directed to them. Upon receipt of a user'"'"'s voice message address, the voice message system determines whether the destination voice message address has a specified voice message transmission instruction previously selected by the recipient and processes the voice message in accordance with the instruction.

11. In a telephonic voice message apparatus having first and second voice message network subsystems associated with respective first and second voice message addresses and in data communication with a communication medium of a voice message system network, a method of selectively controlling in accordance with instructions stored in the second voice message network subsystem a transmission of telephonic voice message data originating from the first voice message network subsystem associated with the first voice message address and directed to the second voice message network subsystem associated with the second voice message address, comprising:
-
selectively storing in advance in the second voice message network subsystem a specified voice message transmission instruction for controlling transmission of telephonic voice message data directed to the second voice message address; initiating direction of telephonic voice message data from the first voice message network subsystem for transmission through the communication medium to the second voice message address; transmitting through the communication medium from the first voice message network subsystem to the second voice message network subsystem the second voice message address but not transmitting through the communication medium the telephonic voice message data directed from the first voice message network subsystem; determining within the second voice message network subsystem in response to the second voice message address whether there is associated with the second voice message address a stored specified voice message transmission instruction for controlling transmission of the telephonic voice message data; upon determining there is a specified voice message transmission instruction associated with the second voice message address, providing a signal through the communication medium from the second voice message network subsystem to the first voice message network subsystem to enable processing of the telephonic voice message data in accordance with the specified voice message transmission instruction; and processing in accordance with the specified voice message transmission instruction previously stored in the second voice message network subsystem the telephonic voice message data at the first voice message network subsystem. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
