Coil prosthetic foot
First Claim
1. A prosthetic foot for attachment to a shin section or to an ankle fixture comprising:
- a heel extension having a heel extension section,a forefoot extension, distinct from said heel extension, having a fore toe portion, a fastener to secure said heel extension and said forefoot extension together so that said heel extension extends from the fastener in an anterior direction into a first arc anterior to said fastener and extends out of said first arc in a posterior direction so that at least a portion of the heel extension section is disposed posterior to said fastener, and said forefoot extension extends from the fastener in a posterior direction into a second arc posterior to said fastener and extends out of said first arc in an anterior direction so that at least a portion of the fore toe portion is disposed anterior to said fastener, whereby said heel extension and said forefoot extension are oriented in an overlapping and opposite fashion.

Abstract
A prosthetic foot formed by one continuous coil spring which has a foot center coil section, a heel extension section, and a forefoot extension section. Lateral and medial and torsional movement are accommodated. Energy is absorbed and stored by the prosthetic foot during heel strike in the gait cycle, energy is transferred to the forefoot extension section during foot roll-forward to toe-off in the gait cycle, and energy is released to provide a propelling force on the prosthetic foot at toe-off in the gait cycle. An apparatus allowing the wearer of the prosthetic foot to feel by physical sensation forces being applied to the prosthetic foot is included in one embodiment.

10. A prosthetic foot for attachment to a shin section or to an ankle fixture comprising:
-
a heel extension having a heel extension section, for absorbing and storing energy at heel strike of the gait cycle; a forefoot extension, distinct from said heel extension and having a fore toe portion, for releasing stored energy at toe-off during the gait cycle to provide a gait enhancing propelling force on the foot; and a fastener to secure said heel extension and said forefoot extension together so that said heel extension extends from the fastener in an anterior direction into a first arc anterior to said fastener and extends out of said first arc in a posterior direction so that at least a portion of the heel extension section is disposed posterior to said fastener, and said forefoot extension extends from the fastener in a posterior direction into a second arc posterior to said fastener and extends out of said first arc in an anterior direction so that at least a portion of the fore toe portion is disposed anterior to said fastener, whereby said heel extension and said forefoot extension are oriented in an overlapping and opposite fashion, wherein during compression and loading of the gait cycle said first arc and said second arc act to produce a smooth and uninterrupted foot action. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)

19. A prosthetic foot for attachment to a shin section or to an ankle fixture comprising:
-
a heel extension extending in a posterior direction, a forefoot extension, distinct from said heel extension, extending in an anterior direction, a fastener to secure said heel extension and said forefoot extension together so that a portion of said heel extension forms a first arc anterior to said fastener and a portion of said forefoot extension forms a second arc posterior to said fastener whereby said heel extension and said forefoot extension are oriented in an overlapping and opposite fashion to form a coil section. - View Dependent Claims (20)
