1. A method of forming a composite comprising the steps of:

  • (A) providing first and second substrates, the second substrate being permeable to water vapor but impermeable to liquid water, and(B) applying to at least one of the first and second substrates an adhesive structure which is of substantially uniform thickness and discontinuous across the width of the one substrate, the adhesive structure comprising an array along the length of said one substrate of substantially linear, primarily unbroken and elongated filaments of adhesive of a substantially uniform diameter, the diameter being about 3 to 100 microns, the adhesive structure being about as thick as the diameter of the filaments and securing the other of the first and second substrates to the adhesive structure to form a composite, all without significantly modifying liquid water and water vapor permeability/impermeability properties of either of the first and second substrates.
