1. A contact lens formed from the polymerization product of a monomer mixture comprising a polybutadiene-based compound having the following structure


  • space="preserve" listing-type="equation">E--B(AB).sub.a --E
in whicheach A is independently selected from the group consisting of a chemical bond or --OCO--, --COO--, --CONH--, --NHCO--, --OCOO--, --NHCOO-- and --OCONH--;

a is zero or at least 1;

each B is independently represented by the formula ##STR12## where each of m, n, and p is independently 0 or greater, provided such that m+n+p is at least 10;

R is hydrogen or C1 -C4 alkyl;

each E is independently a polymerizable terminal ethylenically unsaturated organic group having the formula;

##STR13## wherein R2 is hydrogen or methyl;

R3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and a --CO--Y'"'"'--R1 radical wherein Y'"'"' is --O--, --S--, or --NH-- and R1 is a C1 to C12 alkyl;

each of X and R4 is independently selected from the group consisting of --OCO--, --COO--, --CONH--, --NHCO--, --OCOO--, --NHCOO-- and --OCONH--;

Ar is an aromatic radical having 6 to 30 carbon atoms;

each of t and y is independently 0 or an integer of 1 to 6;

and each of u, v and w is independently 0 or 1.
