Abstract

A skew angle setting tool and method for assisting in orienting the skew pin of an apparatus having a mandrel for stacking rotor laminations for dynamoelectric machines is described. The skew pin is movable to have at least one predetermined angular orientation with respect to the axis of the mandrel. The tool includes a first member configured to be positioned in a generally coextensive relation with the mandrel and has at least one location thereon corresponding to a preselected rotor lamination stack height, and a second member disposed in predetermined relation to the location on the first member corresponding to the preselected rotor lamination stack height. The skew pin is positionable in registration with one or more locations on the second member to orient the skew pin in corresponding angular orientations with respect to the mandrel axis.

Claims

1. A method for setting the skew angle to he imparted to a stack of rotor laminations utilizing an apparatus having a mandrel and a skew pin rotatable relative to the mandrel, the mandrel and skew pin configured to have the rotor laminations stacked thereon, a setting arm secured to and controlling movement of the skew pin, the apparatus further including a stopping member for limiting rotation of the setting arm, a tool having skew pin angle indicating means comprising a plurality of indicators corresponding to respective skew angles, said method comprising the steps of:

setting the skew pin angle indicating means to a desired location along the length of the mandrel;

positioning the setting arm in a first position in registration with the desired skew pin angle indicator of the skew pin angle indicating means; and

setting the stopping member to prevent rotation of the setting arm, when moving in a direction from being substantially parallel with the mandrel to the first position, beyond the first position.

A method in accordance with claim 1 where the skew pin angle indicating means of the tool comprises an adjustment plate including a plurality of skew pin alignment notches formed therein along an outer circumference thereof, and setting the stopping member comprises the step of disposing the setting arm in the alignment notch corresponding to the desired skew angle.

A method in accordance with claim 1 wherein said skew pin angle indicating means comprises a member having a central body and a plurality of elongated arms extending outwardly therefrom, each of said elongated arms being positionable relative to the mandrel to correspond to a predetermined skew angle, and setting the stopping member comprises the step of rotating the setting arm into registration with the elongated arm corresponding to the desired skew angle.
