1. A diagnostic kit for the detection of a substance of interest comprising:

  • (a) a cellulose binding domain (CBD) fusion product comprising (i) a CBD the amino acid sequence of which comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO;

    2 and which is capable of binding to cellulose with high affinity and substantially free of other proteins with which it is naturally associated, and (ii) a second protein capable of binding a substance of interest;

    (b) a detectable label; and

    (c) cellulose.
