1. A process comprising contacting under ene-synthesis reaction conditions at least one polyisobutene having a content of external double bonds that is greater than 50%, with at least one unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydride which is maleic anhydride or maleic anhydride substituted by 1 or 2 methyl groups, in at least one aromatic solvent that is toluene or a xylene;

  • said aromatic solvent being employed at a ratio of 35 to 60% by weight relative to the reaction medium, whereby a polyisobutenylsuccinic anhydride is produced.
