Method and devices for video-assisted surgical techniques
First Claim
1. A device for sealing an incision made in a body wall having an exterior surface and an interior surface, said device comprising a compliant low-profile sealing ring and a sealing cap connectable to said sealing ring, said sealing ring having an inner opening region, a first section connected to a second section, and a third section connected to said second section, wherein said device is designed to be fitted into said incision such that said first section is in contact with said exterior surface surrounding said incision and said third section is in contact with said interior surface, wherein a thickness of said first section is designed to extend slightly above said exterior surface so as to minimize limitations on lateral movement within and below a level of said incision.

Abstract
A method for performing surgical procedures using a multi-functional access port for deploying a wide array of instruments and manipulation devices, including a surgeon'"'"'s hand or fingers. The method includes optional video-assisted techniques and one or more components to aid in those techniques. The multi-functional access port includes a sealing ring providing easy access to the body cavity and to prevent contamination of one or more incisions of the body wall. The sealing ring may also be used to effect a seal when and if desired expansion of the body cavity is to be maintained. The sealing ring acts to isolate the exterior surface and optionally the interior surface of the body wall. Another component designed to aid in the surgical techniques of the present invention is a modified surgical glove that extends up to at least the surgeon'"'"'s wrist. The modified glove can be used in conjunction with the sealing ring so that wound protection and expansion of the body cavity can be maintained as the surgeon'"'"'s hand is moved in and out of the incision. The modified glove may also include accessory regions that permit the surgeon to deploy equipment within the incision. The surgical technique of the present invention includes the integration of video observation of the body cavity with the operative tactile advantage of placing the surgeon'"'"'s hand or fingers in direct physical contact with the internal body contents.

5. A method for performing surgery comprising the steps of:
-
a. creating one or more incisions in a body wall; b. inserting a compliant low-profile multi-function sealing port into a selected incision of said one or more incisions, wherein said multi-function sealing port isolates said selected incision, and wherein said sealing port is of a thickness designed to extend slightly above a body surface surrounding said selected incision so as to minimize limitations on lateral movement within and below a level of said selected incision; and c. performing one or more surgical procedures through said multi-function sealing port by deploying a surgeon'"'"'s hand or fingers into one of said one or more selected incisions. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)
