1. A liquid-crystalline medium based on a mixture of polar compounds having positive dielectric anisotropy, comprising one or more compounds of the formula I, ##STR48## in which R is H, an alkyl or alkenyl radical having 1 to 15 carbon atoms, which is unsubstituted, monosubstituted by CN or CF3 or monosubstituted to perhalo-substituted by halogen, it also being possible for one or more CH2 groups in these radicals to be replaced, in each case independently of one another, by --O--, --S--, --O--, --CO--, --CO--O--, --O--CO-- or --O--CO--O-- in such a way that O atoms are not linked directly to one another,Y is F, Cl or halogenated alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxy having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, andL1 and L2 are each, independently of one another, H or F;

  • additionally comprising one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of those of the formulae II, III, IV, V, VI and VII;

    R0 ;

    n-alkyl, oxaalkyl, fluoroalkyl or alkenyl in each case having 1 to 7 carbon atoms,X0 ;

    F, Cl or halogenated alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxy having 1 to 6 carbon atoms.Y1 and Y2 ;

    in each case independently of one another H or F,Z;
