1. A method for controlling how a receiver responds to a message received in a radio communication system, the method comprising in a controller of the radio communication system the step of:

  • transmitting a message element and an indication of a signal quality threshold corresponding to the message element; and

    the method further comprising in the receiver the steps of;

    receiving the message element and the indication of the signal quality threshold corresponding thereto;

    measuring a received signal quality experienced while receiving the message element; and

    completing a negative response to the message when the received signal quality is worse than the signal quality threshold, and a positive response to the message when the received signal quality is not worse than the signal quality threshold, wherein the message element is defined as one of (a) the message in its entirety and (b) a portion of the message.
