1. A vertical cavity surface emitting laser diode integral feedback assembly comprising:
- a plate having a first surface, a second surface and a thickness located between said first and said second surfaces;
said plate having a plurality of light detecting means on said first surface and a plurality of openings extending entirely through said thickness;
a laser light source having a plurality of vertical cavity surface emitting laser diodes for emitting a plurality of light beams;
said plate being spaced apart from and being operably connected to said light source in such a manner that each one of said plurality of openings of said plate aligns with a corresponding one of said plurality of vertical cavity surface emitting laser diodes in order to allow the light beam from each one of said plurality of vertical cavity surface emitting laser diodes to pass through a corresponding one of said plurality of openings;
each one of said plurality of light detecting means being electrically connected to a corresponding one of said plurality of vertical cavity surface emitting laser diodes to provide a feedback to each individual vertical cavity surface emitting laser diode.

Abstract
There is disclosed a vertical cavity laser diode (VCSEL) assembly with an integral set of detectors for the purpose of individually monitoring and adjusting the output power of each laser diode. A plate which has a plurality of light detectors and a plurality of apertures is bonded to a laser light source which has a plurality of VCSELs. Each aperture of the plate is aligned with a corresponding VCSEL and each light detector is electrically connected to a corresponding VCSEL.
