Assured two-way wireless communication system for financial industry transactions
First Claim
1. In a two-way wireless communications system adapted for use on the floor of a financial exchange, a method of providing bilateral assured communications, comprising the steps of:
- constructing an instruction at a first device for wireless transmission as an instruction signal to a second device, the instruction signal including an instruction, an assigned sequence number for identifying the instruction, and an adjustable hierarchical value for identifying the stage of the instruction;
transmitting the instruction signal from the first device to the second device;
altering the instruction signal at the second device to provide an indication that the instruction has been received by the second device, the altering step including adjusting the hierarchical value to indicate the present stage of the instruction;
transmitting the altered instruction signal from the second device to the first device;
acknowledging receipt of the instruction by providing an indication that the received instruction has been seen by an operator of the second device, the step of acknowledging including further altering the previously altered instruction signal at the second device by further adjusting the hierarchical value to indicate the present stage of the instruction;
transmitting the further altered instruction signal from the second device to the first device;
acknowledging receipt of the instruction at the first device by again adjusting the hierarchical value to indicate that the first device has been informed that the operator of the second device has seen the instruction; and
automatically transmitting the again adjusted instruction signal from the first device to the second device.

Abstract
A method for providing assured communications in a two-way wireless communications system is disclosed. An instruction is constructed at a first device for wireless transmission to a second device where the instruction is received by the second device and ultimately seen by the user. The instruction is transmitted as an instruction signal. The second device alters the instruction signal and transmits it back in altered form to provide an indication that the instruction has been received by the second device. The user of the second device informs the operator of the first device that the instruction has been seen by the user by transmitting a further altered version of the instruction signal to the first device. The disclosed method assures the operator of the first device that instructions are being received and acknowledged in a timely manner.

11. In a two-way wireless communications system for use on the floor of a financial exchange, a method of providing bilateral assured communications, comprising the steps of:
-
constructing an instruction at a first device for wireless transmission as an instruction signal to a second device, the instruction being assigned a unique sequence number and a first hierarchical value; transmitting from the first device to the second device the instruction signal along with the first hierarchical value; assigning a second hierarchical value to the instruction at the second device indicative of the instruction having been received at the second device, the second hierarchical value being greater than the first hierarchical value; transmitting from the second device to the first device the instruction signal along with the second hierarchical value; assigning a third hierarchical value to the instruction at the second device indicative of the instruction having been seen by an operator of the second device, the third hierarchical value being greater than the second hierarchical value; transmitting from the second device to the first device the instruction signal along with the third hierarchical value; assigning a fourth hierarchical value to the instruction at the first device to indicate that the first device has been informed that the operator of the second device has seen the instruction; and automatically transmitting from the first device to the second device the instruction signal along with the fourth hierarchical value. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13)
