Abstract

An apparatus for injecting a plurality of coil groups into a stator core of a dynamoelectric machine is described. The injection apparatus includes, in one embodiment, a stripper assembly including a first stripper. The first stripper includes an injection disk which, in one embodiment, is formed from nylon. A first surface of the injection disk is configured to contact a segment of at least one of the coils to move the coil axially along the blades of the injection apparatus without contacting portions of the coil in gaps between the blades.

Claims

1. Apparatus for injecting a plurality of coil groups into the magnetic core of a dynamoelectric machine, each coil group having one or more coils, the stator having a central bore and a plurality of teeth spaced around the bore with a slot between adjacent teeth extending radially outwardly from the bore, said injecting apparatus comprising a plurality of gap defining elongate blades arranged in a circular array, said blades configured to have the coil groups placed thereon such that portions of each of the coils are located in gaps between adjacent ones of the blades and segments of each of the coils extend across the interior of said circular array of blades, said apparatus further comprising a stripper assembly movable axially within said circular array of blades, said stripper assembly comprising a first stripper, said first stripper comprising a disk having an outer diameter less than an inner diameter of said circular array, a first surface of said first stripper configured to contact at least one segment of at least one coil which extends across an interior of said circular array of blades and to move at least the one coil axially along said blades without contacting the portions of the one coil in the gaps between said blades.

2. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein said first stripper further comprises a weight member, a first surface of said weight member being substantially adjacent a second surface of said disk, said second surface of said disk being opposite said first surface of said disk.

3. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 2 wherein said first and second surfaces of said disk of said first stripper are substantially flat.

4. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein said first stripper further comprises a grip member extending from said first surface of said first stripper.

5. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 4 wherein said grip member of said first stripper comprises a handle configured to be gripped by a gripper of an automated pick and place machine.

6. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein said disk of said first stripper is formed from nylon.

7. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein an outer periphery of said disk and an inner periphery of said circular array of blades are separated by less than approximately one-half a diameter of a largest diameter wire forming the coils.

An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein said stripper assembly further comprises a second stripper, said second stripper having a generally circular cross-sectional shape, said second stripper comprising a plurality of radially spaced fins at an outer circumference of said second stripper, each of said fins extending into one of the gaps between adjacent blades.

An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 8 wherein said second stripper includes a frusto-conical shaped surface configured to contact a segment of at least one coil which extends across the interior of said circular array of blades, and to move at least the one coil axially along said blades, said fins of said second stripper contacting portions of at least the one coil in the gaps between said blades.

10. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 8 wherein said second stripper is formed from brass.

11. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 8 wherein said second stripper comprises a first surface configured to contact a segment of at least one coil which extends across the interior of said circular array of blades.

12. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 11 wherein said first stripper further comprises a weight member, a first surface of said weight member being substantially adjacent a second surface of said disk, said second surface of said disk being opposite said first surface of said disk.

13. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 12 wherein a second surface of said weight member is substantially adjacent said first surface of said second stripper.

14. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 12 wherein a coil insertion star is mounted to said second stripper on said first surface thereof, and a second surface of said weight member is substantially adjacent a first surface of said coil insertion star.

15. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 14 wherein said coil insertion star has four legs.

16. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 14 wherein said coil insertion star has six legs.

17. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 8 wherein said second stripper has an axial length and each of said fins extends substantially the entire axial length of said second stripper.

18. An injecting apparatus in accordance with claim 8 wherein said second stripper has an axial length and each of said fins has an axial length substantially less than the axial length of said second stripper.

19. A stripper for injecting, from an injection device, a plurality of coil groups into a stator core of a dynamoelectric machine, each coil group having one or more coils, the injection device having a plurality of gap defining elongate blades arranged in a circular array having an inner diameter, the blades configured to have the coil groups placed thereon such that first portions of each of the coils are received in respective gaps between the blades and segments of each of the coils extend across an interior of the circular array of blades, said stripper comprising a disk having an outer diameter less than the inner diameter of said circular array, a first surface of said stripper configured to contact at least part of one segment of at least one coil which extends across the interior of the circular array of blades and to move at least the one coil axially along the blades without contacting the first portions of the one coil located in the gaps between the blades.

20. A stripper in accordance with claim 19 further comprising a weight member, a first surface of said weight member being substantially adjacent a second surface of said disk, said second surface of said disk being opposite said first surface of said disk.

21. A stripper in accordance with claim 20 wherein said first and second surfaces of said disk are substantially flat.

22. A stripper in accordance with claim 19 further comprising a grip member extending from said first surface.

23. A stripper in accordance with claim 22 wherein said grip member comprises a handle configured to be gripped by a gripper of an automated pick and place machine.

24. A stripper in accordance with claim 19 wherein said disk of said first stripper is formed from nylon.

25. A stripper in accordance with claim 19 wherein an outer periphery of said disk is selected so that when said disk is positioned within the circular array of blades, said disk outer periphery and an inner periphery of the circular array of the blades are separated by less than approximately one-half a diameter of wire forming the coil to be injected by said stripper.

26. A stripper assembly for injecting, from an injection device, a plurality of coil groups into a stator core of a dynamoelectric machine, each coil group having one or more coils, the injection device having a plurality of gap defining elongate blades arranged in a circular array having an inner diameter, the blades configured to have the coil groups placed thereon such that portions of each of the coils are received in respective gaps between the blades and segments of each of the coils extend across an interior of the circular array of blades, said stripper assembly comprising a first stripper, said first stripper comprising a disk having an outer diameter less than the inner diameter of said circular array of blades, a first surface of said first stripper configured to contact a segment of at least one coil which extends across the interior of said circular array of said blades and to move the one coil axially along said blades without contacting the portions of the one coil in the gaps between said blades.

27. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 26 wherein said first stripper further comprises a weight member, a first surface of said weight member being substantially adjacent a second surface of said disk, said second surface of said disk being opposite said first surface of said disk.

28. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 27 wherein said first and second surfaces of said disk of said first stripper are substantially flat.

29. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 26 wherein said first stripper further comprises a grip member extending from said first surface of said first stripper.

30. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 29 wherein said grip member of said first stripper comprises a handle configured to be gripped by a gripper of an automated pick and place machine.

31. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 26 wherein said disk of said first stripper is formed from nylon.

32. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 26 wherein an outer periphery of said disk is selected so that when said disk is positioned within the circular array of blades, said disk outer periphery and an inner periphery of the circular array of the blades are separated by less than approximately one-half a diameter of wire forming the coils.

33. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 26 further comprising a second stripper, said second stripper having a generally circular cross-sectional shape, said second stripper comprising a plurality of radially spaced fins at an outer circumference of said second stripper, each of said fins extending into one of the gaps between adjacent blades when said disk is positioned within the circular array of blades.

34. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 33 wherein said second stripper includes a frusto-conical shaped surface configured to contact a segment of at least one coil which extends across the interior of said circular array of blades, and to move at least the coil axially along said blades, said fins of said second stripper contacting portions of the one coil in the gaps between said blades.

35. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 33 wherein said second stripper is formed from brass.

36. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 33 wherein said second stripper has an axial length and each of said fins extends substantially the entire axial length of said second stripper.

37. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 33 wherein said second stripper has an axial length and each of said fins has an axial length substantially less than the axial length of said second stripper.

38. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 33 wherein said second stripper comprises a first surface configured to contact a segment of at least one coil which extends across an interior of said circular array of said blades.

39. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 38 wherein said first stripper further comprises a weight member, a first surface of said weight member being substantially adjacent a second surface of said disk, said second surface of said disk being opposite said first surface of said disk.

40. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 39 wherein a second surface of said weight member is substantially adjacent said first surface of said second stripper.

41. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 39 wherein a coil insertion star is mounted to said second stripper on said first surface thereof, and a second surface of said weight member is substantially adjacent a first surface of said coil insertion star.

42. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 41 wherein said coil insertion star has four legs.

43. A stripper assembly in accordance with claim 41 wherein said coil insertion star has six legs.

44. A stripper for injecting, from an injection device, a plurality of coil groups into a stator core of a dynamoelectric machine, each coil group having one or more coils, the injection device having a plurality of gap establishing elongate blades arranged in a circular array, the blades configured to have the coil groups placed thereon such that portions of each of the coils are received in gaps between the blades and segments of each of the coils extend across the interior of the circular array of blades, said stripper comprising an injection disk and a generally cylindrical portion, said disk having an outer diameter less than an inner diameter of the circular array, said stripper further comprising a wire pushing shoulder sized to be located entirely within the array of blades and a plurality of radially spaced fins, an axial length of said cylindrical portion being greater than the axial length of said fins.

45. A stripper in accordance with claim 44 wherein the outer diameter of said disk and the an outer diameter of said cylindrical portion are substantially equal.

46. A stripper in accordance with claim 45 wherein an outer periphery of said disk is selected so that when said disk is positioned within the circular array of blades, said disk outer periphery and an inner periphery of the circular array of the blades are separated by less than approximately one-half a diameter of wire forming the coils.

47. A stripper in accordance with claim 44 wherein a first surface of said disk is configured to contact a segment of at least one coil which extends across the interior of the circular array of the blades and to move the one coil axially along the blades without contacting portions of the one coil in the gaps between the blades.

48. A stripper in accordance with claim 47 wherein said first surface of said disk is substantially flat.

49. A stripper in accordance with claim 44 wherein said disk is formed from nylon.

50. A stripper in accordance with claim 44 wherein said fins are formed from brass.
