1. A vehicle security system comprising:
- at least one vehicle sensor;
alarm indication means for generating an alarm indication at the vehicle;
a remote transmitter comprising pseudorandom coding means for transmitting a pseudorandomly coded signal responsive to user activation; and
a controller operatively connected to said vehicle sensors and said alarm indication means, said controller comprisingpseudorandom decoding means for switching said controller from an armed mode to a disarmed mode responsive to receiving the pseudorandomly coded signal from said remote transmitter, said controller in the armed mode being capable of generating an alarm responsive to said at least one vehicle sensor, andunauthorized code detecting means for detecting an unauthorized attempt to move said controller to the disarmed mode based upon receipt of a coded signal other than the pseudorandomly coded signal from said remote transmitter, said unauthorized code detecting means including means for generating an alarm based upon detecting a previously received pseudorandomly coded signal.

Abstract
A vehicle security system includes a controller that may also the disarmed mode responsive to receiving a predetermined coded signal from a remote transmitter, and generate an alarm based upon receipt of a coded signal other than the predetermined coded signal from the remote transmitter. More particularly, the coded signal may comprise a pseudorandomly coded signal which is decoded by the controller. The alarm may be generated based upon detecting a previously received pseudorandomly coded signal. Method aspects of the invention are also disclosed.

3. A vehicle security system comprising:
-
at least one vehicle sensor; alarm indication means for generating an alarm indication at the vehicle; a remote transmitter comprising pseudorandom coding means for transmitting one of a plurality of pseudorandomly coded signals; and a controller operatively connected to said at least one vehicle sensor and said alarm indication means said controller switchable from an armed mode to a disarmed mode, aid controller in the armed mode being capable of generating an alarm responsive to said at least one vehicle sensor, said controller comprising pseudorandom decoding means for switching said controller to the disarmed mode responsive to receiving a corresponding one of the plurality of pseudorandomly coded signals from said remote transmitter, and unauthorized code detecting means for detecting an unauthorized attempt to move said controller to the disarmed mode and for generating an alarm based upon receipt of a coded signal other than the corresponding one of the plurality of pseudorandomly coded signals from said remote transmitter, said unauthorized code detecting means including means for generating said alarm based upon detecting a previously transmitted pseudorandomly coded signal. - View Dependent Claims (4)

5. A method for operating a vehicle security system comprising at least one vehicle sensor;
- an alarm indicator for indicating an alarm at the vehicle; and
a controller switchable from an armed mode to a disarmed mode responsive to at least one coded remote transmitter;
the controller in the armed mode being capable of generating an alarm responsive to the at least one vehicle sensor;
said method comprising the steps of;transmitting a pseudorandomly coded signal from a remote transmitter; detecting an unauthorized attempt to move the controller to the disarmed mode based upon receipt of a coded signal other than the pseudorandomly coded signal from the remote transmitter; and generating an alarm responsive to detecting an unauthorized attempt to move the controller to the disarmed mode by using a previously received pseudorandomly coded signal. - View Dependent Claims (6)
