Method for controlling the brake system of a vehicle comprising front and rear axles with wheels thereon, front axle brakes, rear axle brakes, and means for translating a driver'"'"'s braking command into a braking force at the front axle and a braking force at the rear axle according to a predetermined braking force distribution, said method comprising:

  • determining deceleration of the vehicle,detecting whether at least one wheel on the front axle is exhibiting a locking tendency,specifying a braking force at the rear axle according to the predetermined braking force distribution and the driver'"'"'s command when the vehicle deceleration is below a predetermined threshold value or when no locking tendency in the front axle wheels is detected, andincreasing the braking force at the rear axle independent of the predetermined braking force distribution and the driver'"'"'s command when the vehicle deceleration is greater than the predetermined threshold value and when a locking tendency is detected in any front axle wheel.
