1. An organic electroluminescent device comprising:

  • an electron transport layer which comprises a single layer of an 1,2,4-triazole derivative of the formula;

    ##STR14## wherein R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 may be the same or different, each is hydrogen atom, alkyl, alkoxyl, aryl or aralkyl, and R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are not hydrogen atoms at the same time, or comprises the layer of the 1,2,4-triazole derivative and a layer of a tris(8-quinolinolato)aluminum (III) complex; and

    a hole-transport luminescent layer in which at least one dye is molecularly dispersed in a disperse medium.
