1. A vascular endoprosthesis adapted to be delivered into and deployed remotely in a blood vessel, the endoprosthesis comprising:
- a tubular elongate graft having proximal and distal ends;
a resiliently expandable anchor assembly having proximal and distal ends and a longitudinal axis, the anchor assembly being attached to the graft and being radially expandable and contractible between an expanded position in which it supports the tubular graft in an open configuration and a contracted position in which the anchor assembly has a substantially reduced cross-sectional profile to enable the endoprosthesis to be remotely radially contracted and contained within a slender defined space having a transverse cross-sectional profile with dimensions smaller than that of the expanded endoprosthesis;
at least one hook attached to the anchor assembly by a hook support, the hook support having a portion that is movable relative to other portions of the anchor assembly, the hook being carried by said movable portion of the hook support, the hook being arranged to project radially outwardly and being disposed relative to the hook support such that, with the hook support at least partially outside of said defined space, the hook projects radially outwardly beyond the transverse dimension of the defined space, and with the hook support remotely drawn into and enclosed completely within said defined space, the hook is radially within the transverse dimension of the defined space.

Abstract
An endoprosthesis assembly adapted to be securely positioned within a body lumen is provided with one or more hooks adapted to engage tissue that defines the body lumen. The endoprosthesis includes a resilient self-expanding anchor attached to the tubular graft. The anchor and hooks carried by the anchor are constructed to enable the endoprosthesis to be recaptured in a delivery device to enable repositioning or removal of the endoprosthesis and any time prior to complete deployment of the endoprosthesis in the patient.

A vascular endoprosthesis adapted to be delivered into and deployed in a blood vessel by a delivery device that includes a tubular sheath at its distal end, the tubular sheath encompassing a slender defined space having a cross-sectional profile smaller than that of the expanded endoprosthesis, the endoprosthesis comprising:

a tubular elongate graft having proximal and distal ends; a resiliently expandable anchor assembly having proximal and distal ends and a longitudinal axis, the anchor assembly being attached to the graft and being radially expandable and contractible between an expanded position in which it supports the tubular graft in an open configuration and a radially contracted position in which the anchor assembly has a substantially reduced cross-sectional profile smaller than that of the sheath cross-sectional profile to enable the endoprosthesis to be radially contracted and contained within the slender, defined space; at least one hook attached to the anchor assembly and arranged to project radially outwardly; and at least one hook support with which the hook is movable and which has a cam element which may be engaged to move the hook support radially when the sheath is moved relative to the anchor assembly, movement of the hook with the hook support being such that when the cam is engaged and drawn into the slender, defined space, the hook is drawn radially inward sufficiently to allow it to be contained within the slender defined space, and when the cam is outside of the defined space, the hook is radially outward of the slender, defined space. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16)

a graft; a resiliently expandable anchor assembly attached to the graft, the anchor assembly being radially expandable and contractible between an expanded position in which it supports the graft in an open configuration and a contracted position in which the anchor assembly has a cross-sectional profile sufficiently small to enable the endoprosthesis to be remotely radially contracted and contained within a slender defined space having a cross-sectional profile smaller than that of the expanded endoprosthesis; and a retractable hook support carrying a hook, the hook support being movably attached to the anchor assembly, for moving the hook between a contracted state and an expanded state, so that when the anchor assembly is in its expanded position, the hook will be disposed radially outward of the defined space, and when the anchor has been remotely contracted to its contracted position, the hook is radially within the defined space.

a graft; a resiliently expandable anchor assembly attached to the graft, the anchor assembly being expandable and contractible between an expanded position in which it supports the tubular graft in an open configuration and a contracted position in which the anchor assembly has a cross-sectional profile sufficiently small to enable the endoprosthesis to be radially contracted and contained within a slender defined space having a cross-sectional profile smaller than that of the expanded endoprosthesis; at least one hook formed on each hook support and arranged to project outwardly, the hook and hook support being mounted to the anchor assembly so that when the anchor assembly is in its expanded position, the hooks will be disposed outside of the defined space and when the anchor is in its contracted position, the hooks are disposed within the defined space; wherein each hook support has a cam element thereon which responds to radially inward pressure to move the hook for that hook support into the defined space.

19. A vascular endoprosthesis apparatus comprising:

a tubular delivery sheath; an elongate graft having proximal and distal ends; a resiliently expandable anchor assembly having proximal and distal ends and a longitudinal axis, the anchor assembly being attached to the graft and being radially expandable and contractible between an expanded position in which it supports the tubular graft in an open configuration and a radially contracted position in which the anchor assembly has a substantially reduced cross-sectional profile to enable the endoprosthesis to be contained within the sheath; at least one hook attached to the anchor assembly and arranged to project radially outwardly, the hook being mounted to the anchor assembly and being movable between an expanded position, in which it is outside of the sheath, and a contracted position, in which it is inside of the sheath, the position of the hook being movable in response to relative movement in proximal and distal directions between the anchor assembly and the delivery sheath; and wherein the hook is connected to the anchor assembly by a hook support having a cam element engageable with the sheath to move the hook support radially when the sheath is moved relative to the anchor, engagement of the cam element with the sheath being such that when the cam is drawn into the sheath, the hook is drawn radially inward sufficiently to allow it to be contained within the sheath, and when the cam is outside of the sheath, the hook is radially outward of the cross-sectional profile of the sheath.

a tubular elongate graft having proximal and distal ends; a resiliently expandable anchor assembly having proximal and distal ends and a longitudinal axis, the anchor assembly being attached to the graft and being radially expandable and contractible between an expanded position in which it supports the tubular graft in an open configuration and a contracted position in which the anchor assembly has a substantially reduced cross-sectional profile to enable the endoprosthesis to be remotely radially contracted and contained within a slender defined space having a transverse cross-sectional profile with dimensions smaller than that of the expanded endoprosthesis; at least one hook carried by the anchor assembly; means for supporting the hook to enable it to move relative to other portions of the anchor assembly to cause the hook to project radially outwardly beyond the transverse dimension of the defined space and to be withdrawn radially inwardly within the transverse dimension of the defined space in response to remote enclosure of the anchor assembly, including the hook support and the hook, within the transverse dimension of the defined space.
