1. A method for enhancing gas or oil production in which a compressed nitrogen rich gas is delivered to a target area selected from the group consisting of a well and a reservoir containing said gas or oil, the improvement comprising:

  • a) removing at least a substantial portion of the oxygen contained within a feed stream of air at the site of said drilling to produce a nitrogen rich gas and an oxygen enriched waste gas;

    b) delivering the nitrogen rich gas to at least one of the well or the reservoir;

    c) injecting the nitrogen rich gas into a drilling fluid to reduce the density of the drilling fluid; and

    d) employing the drilling fluid within a downhole region of the well or reservoir.
