1. An apparatus for detecting a radioisotope in a sample, comprising:

  • (a) a detector assembly including two opposed detectors for detecting emissions from the radioisotope in the sample when the sample is placed in a sample holder between the detectors, and for converting the emissions into electric output pulses, and(b) a pulse shape analyzer, operatively connected to the detectors, for analyzing the output pulses from each detector and comparing them to predetermined acceptance criteria for the two detectors, rejecting pulses that do not satisfy the predetermined acceptance criteria, and counting output pulses that satisfy the predetermined acceptance criteria.
