1. A transmission power control method in a spread spectrum communication system for performing communication using spectrum spreading between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:
- transmitting, in said base station, a first signal spreaded with a code WO and a second signal spreaded with a code Wi assigned to respective mobile terminals;
measuring, in each terminal, received power of said first signal obtained by de-spreading with the code WO, and transmitting power control information depending on a result of said measuring to said base station; and
controlling, in said base station, transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal according to the power control information received from each mobile terminal.

Abstract
In a spread spectrum communication system, one (Wn) of a series of orthogonal codes for spectrum spreading is assigned to signal-to-noise ratio measurement in a terminal. On the basis of a noise signal detected by de-spreading a signal received from an antenna with the above described orthogonal code Wn and a pilot signal, each terminal derives a signal-to-noise ratio. Each terminal transmits the signal-to-noise ratio to the base station as a power control signal. On the basis of signal-to-noise information received from each terminal as the power control signal, the base station controls signal transmission power for each terminal.
