Abstract

In a spread spectrum communication system, one (W_n) of a series of orthogonal codes for spectrum spreading is assigned to signal-to-noise ratio measurement in a terminal. On the basis of a noise signal detected by de-spreading a signal received from an antenna with the above described orthogonal code W_n and a pilot signal, each terminal derives a signal-to-noise ratio. Each terminal transmits the signal-to-noise ratio to the base station as a power control signal. On the basis of signal-to-noise information received from each terminal as the power control signal, the base station controls signal transmission power for each terminal.

Claims

1. A transmission power control method in a spread spectrum communication system for performing communication using spectrum spreading between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

transmitting, in said base station, a first signal spreaded with a code WO and a second signal spreaded with a code Wi assigned to respective mobile terminals;

measuring, in each terminal, received power of said first signal obtained by de-spreading with the code WO, and transmitting power control information depending on a result of said measuring to said base station; and

controlling, in said base station, transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal according to the power control information received from each mobile terminal.

2. A transmission power control method according to claim 1, wherein said base station controls transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal, so as to make transmission power of a high received power mobile terminal lower and make that of a low received power mobile terminal higher.

3. A transmission power control method according to claim 1, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

and

said base station transmits said first and second signal with the same frequency band.

4. A transmission power control method according to claim 1, wherein said base station transmits said first signal with constant transmission power.

5. A transmission power control method in a spread spectrum communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

transmitting, in said base station, a first signal spreaded with a code WO and a second signal spreaded with a code Wi assigned to respective mobile terminals;

measuring, in each mobile terminal, a signal-to-noise ratio of said first signal obtained by de-spreading with the code WO, and transmitting power control information depending on the signal-to-noise ratio of said first signal to said base station; and

controlling, in said base station, transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal according to the power control information received from each mobile terminal.

6. A transmission power control method according to claim 5, wherein said base station controls transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal, so as to make transmission power of a high signal-to-noise ratio mobile terminal lower and make that of a low signal-to-noise ratio mobile terminal higher.

7. A transmission power control method according to claim 5, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

and

said base station transmits said first and second signal with the same frequency band.

8. A transmission power control method according to 5, wherein said base station transmits said first signal with constant transmission power.

9. A transmission power control method in a communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

transmitting, in said base station, a first signal with constant transmission power and a second signal with variable transmission power depending on communication condition of each mobile terminal;

generating in each mobile terminal, a power control signal indicating the communication condition of said first signal and transmitting said power control signal to said base station; and

controlling, in said base station, transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal according to the power control signal received from each mobile terminal.

10. A transmission power control method according to claim 9, wherein said base station controls transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal, so as to make transmission power of a good communication condition mobile terminal lower and make that of a bad communication condition mobile terminal higher.

11. A transmission power control method according to claim 9, wherein said base station transmits said first and second signal with the same frequency band, at the same time point.

12. A mobile terminal for performing communication with a base station by using spectrum spreading comprising:

a first radio frequency circuit which converts a transmitted signal in a transmission frequency band to a second stage spread spectrum signal;

a first demodulator which converts said second stage spread spectrum signal to a first stage spectrum signal by de-spreading with a code PN assigned to said base station;

a second demodulator which extracts a first received signal from said first stage spread spectrum signal by de-spreading with a code WO;

a third demodulator which extracts a second received signal from said first stage spread spectrum signal by de-spreading with a code Wi assigned to the mobile terminal;

a decoder which decodes said second received signal to form a received data;

a power control information unit which measures received power of said first received signal and generates a power control information depending on the received power;

a modulator which converts said power control information to a transmission spread spectrum signal by spreading with the code PN; and

a second radio frequency circuit which converts said transmission spread spectrum signal to a signal in the transmission frequency band for transmitting.

13. A mobile terminal according to claim 12, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of orthogonal codes which are orthogonal to each other.

14. A mobile terminal for performing communication with a base station by using spectrum spreading comprising:

a receiving circuit which receives a first signal and a second signal that are transmitted from said base station, wherein said first signal is spreaded with a code WO and said second signal is spreaded with a code Wi assigned to the mobile terminal;

a power control information unit which measures received power of said first signal and generates a power control information depending on the received power;

a decoder which decodes said second signal to form a received data; and

a transmitting circuit which transmits said power control information to said base station.

15. A mobile terminal according to claim 14, wherein said receiving circuit comprising;

a first demodulator which extracts a first signal from a signal transmitted from said base station by de-spreading with the code WO; and

a second demodulator which extracts a second signal from said signal transmitted from said base station by de-spreading with the code Wi assigned to the mobile terminal.

16. A mobile terminal according to claim 14, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band; and

said first signal is transmitted with constant transmission power.

17. A mobile terminal for performing communication with a base station comprising:

a receiving circuit which receives a first signal and a second signal that are transmitted from said base station, wherein said first signal is transmitted with constant transmission power and said second signal transmitted with variable transmission power depending on communication condition of the mobile terminal;

a power control signal generating unit which generates a power control signal indicating the communication condition of said first signal;

a decoder which decodes said second signal to form a received data; and

a transmitting circuit which transmits said power control signal to said base station.

18. A mobile terminal according to claim 17, wherein said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band, at the same time point.

19. A base station for performing communication with mobile terminals by using spectrum spreading comprising:

a first modulator which converts a first transmission signal to a first transmission spread spectrum signal by spreading with a code PN assigned to the base station and a code WO;

a second modulator which converts a second transmission signal to a second transmission spread spectrum signal by spreading with the code PN and a code Wi assigned to respective mobile terminals;

a first radio frequency circuit which converts said first and second transmission signals to signals in a transmission frequency band for transmitting;

a second radio frequency circuit which converts a transmitted signal in the transmission frequency band to a received spread spectrum signal;

a demodulator which extracts a received signal from said received spread spectrum signal by de-spreading with the code PN; and

a decoder which decodes said received signal to form a received data and a power control information generated depending on received power of said first transmission signal in each mobile terminal;

wherein said first modulator amplitudes said first transmission spread spectrum signal with a constant gain and said second modulator amplitudes said second transmission spread spectrum signal for each mobile terminal with a gain according to said power control information received from each mobile terminal.

20. A base station according to claim 19, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of orthogonal codes which are orthogonal to each other.

21. A base station for performing communication with mobile terminals by using spectrum spreading comprising:

a transmitting circuit which transmits a first signal spreaded with a code WO and a second signal spreaded with a code Wi assigned to respective mobile terminals; and

a receiving circuit which receives a power control information transmitted from each mobile terminal, wherein said power control information is generated depending on received power of said first signal in each mobile terminal;

wherein said transmitting circuit transmits said first signal with constant transmission power and said second signal for each mobile terminal with transmission power according to said power control information received from each mobile terminal.

22. A base station according to claim 21, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

said transmitting circuit transmits said first and second signals with the same frequency band; and

said transmitting circuit transmits said second signal for a high received power mobile terminal with lower transmission power, whereas said transmitting circuit transmits said second signal for a low received power mobile terminal with higher transmission power.

23. A base station for performing communication with mobile terminals comprising:

a transmitting circuit which transmits a first signal with constant transmission power and a second signal with variable transmission power depending on communication condition of each mobile terminal; and

a receiving circuit which receives a power control signal transmitted from each mobile terminal, wherein said power control signal is generated depending on communication condition of said first signal in each mobile terminal.

24. A base station according to claim 23, wherein said transmitting circuit transmits said first and second transmission signals with the same frequency band, at the same time point;

and

said transmitting circuit transmits said second signal for a good communication condition mobile terminal with lower transmission power, whereas said transmitting circuit transmits said second signal for a bad communication condition mobile terminal with higher transmission power.

25. A transmission power control method in a spread spectrum communication system for performing communication between base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

receiving a first signal and a second signal that are transmitted from said base station, wherein said first signal is spreaded with a code WO and said second signal is spreaded with a code Wi assigned to the mobile terminal;

measuring received power of said first signal obtained by de-spreading with the code WO;

decoding said second signal to form a received data;

transmitting a power control information depending on a result of said measuring to said base station.

26. A transmission power control method according to claim 25, wherein said code WO and code Wi are assigned from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band; and

said first signal is transmitted with constant transmission power.

27. A transmission power control method in a communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

receiving a first signal and a second signal that are transmitted from said base station, wherein said first signal is transmitted with constant transmission power and said second signal is transmitted with variable transmission power depending on communication condition of the mobile terminal;

generating a power control signal indicating the communication condition of said first signal;

decoding said second signal to form a received data; and

transmitting said power control signal to said base station.

28. A transmission power control method according to claim 27, wherein said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band, at the same time point.

29. A transmission power control method in a spread spectrum communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

transmitting a first signal spreaded with a code WO and a second signal spreaded with a code Wi assigned to respective mobile terminals;

receiving a power control information transmitted from each mobile terminal, wherein said power control information is generated depending on received power of said first signal in each mobile terminal; and

controlling transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal according to the power control information received from each mobile terminal.

30. A transmission power control method according to claim 29, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band;

said first signal is transmitted with constant transmission power;

said second signal for a high received power mobile terminal is transmitted with lower transmission power, whereas said second signal for a low received power mobile terminal is transmitted with higher transmission power.

31. A transmission power control method in a communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

transmitting a first signal with constant transmission power and a second signal with variable transmission power depending on communication condition of each mobile terminal;

receiving a power control signal transmitted from each mobile terminals, wherein said power control signal is generated depending on communication condition of said first signal in each mobile terminal;

controlling transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal according to the power control signal received from each mobile terminal.

32. A transmission power control method according to claim 31, wherein said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band, at the same time point, and

said second signal for a good communication condition mobile terminal is transmitted with lower transmission power, whereas said second signal for a bad communication condition mobile terminal is transmitted with higher transmission power.

33. A transmission power control method in a spread spectrum communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

transmitting, in said base station, a first signal spreaded with a code WO and a second signal spreaded with a code Wi assigned to respective mobile terminals;

measuring, in each mobile terminal, first received power of said first signal obtained by de-spreading with the code WO and second received power of said second signal obtained by de-spreading with the code Wi, and transmitting first power control information depending on the first received power and second power controlling information depending on the second received power to said base station; and

controlling, in said base station, transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal according to the first and second power control information received from each mobile terminal.

34. A transmission power control method according to claim 33, wherein, in said base station, the transmission power determined according to the first power control information and corrected according to the second power control information.

35. A transmission power control method according to claim 33, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

and

said base station transmits said first and second signal with the said frequency band; and

said base station transmits said first signal with constant transmission power.

36. A transmission power control method in a communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

transmitting, in said base station, a first signal with constant transmission power and a second signal with variable transmission power depending on communication condition of each mobile terminal;

generating, in each mobile terminal, a first power control signal indicating the communication condition of said first signal and a second power control signal indicating the communication condition of said second signal, and transmitting said first end second power control signals to said base station;

controlling, in said base station, transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal according to the first and second power control signals received from each mobile terminal.

37. A transmission power control method according to claim 36, wherein, in said base station, the transmission power is determined according to the communication condition of said first signal and corrected according to the communication condition of said second signal.

38. A transmission power control method according to claim 36, wherein said base station transmits said first and second signals with the same frequency band, at the same time point.

39. A mobile terminal for performing communication with a base station by using spectrum spreading comprising:

a first radio frequency circuit which converts a transmitted signal in a transmission frequency band to a second stage spread spectrum signal;

a first demodulator which converts said second stage spread spectrum signal to a first stage spread spectrum signal by de-spreading with a code PN assigned to said base station;

a second demodulator which extracts a first received signal from said first stage spread spectrum signal by de-spreading with a code WO;

a third demodulator which extracts a second received signal from said first stage spread spectrum signal by de-spreading with a code Wi assigned to the mobile terminal;

a first power control information unit which measures first received power of said first received signal and generates a first power control information depending on the first received power;

a second power control information unit which measures second received power of said second received signal and generates a second power control information depending on the second received power;

a decoder which decode said second received signal to form a received data; and

a transmitting circuit which transmits said first and second power control information to said base station.

40. A mobile terminal according to claim 39, wherein said receiving circuit comprises:

a first demodulator which extracts a first signal from a signal transmitted from said base station by de-spreading with the code WO; and

a second demodulator which extracts a second signal from said signal transmitted from said base station by de-spreading with the code Wi assigned to the mobile terminal.

41. A mobile terminal according to claim 39, wherein said code WO and code Wi are assigned from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band; and

said first signal is transmitted with constant transmission power.

49. A base station according to claim 40, wherein said transmitting circuit transmits said first and second transmission signals with the same frequency band, at the same time point;

and

said transmitting circuit transmits said second signal with transmission power that is determined according to the communication condition of said first signal and corrected according to the communication condition of said second signal.

42. A mobile terminal for performing communication with a base station comprising:

a receiving circuit which receives a first signal and a second signal that are transmitted from said base station, wherein said first signal is transmitted with constant transmission power and said second signal transmitted with variable transmission power depending on communication condition of the mobile terminal;

a first power control signal generating unit which generates a first power control signal indicating the communication condition of said first signal;

a second power control signal generating unit which generates a second power control signal indicating the communication condition of said second signal;

a decoder which decodes said second signal to form a received data; and

a transmitting circuit which transmits said first and second power control signals to said base station.

43. A mobile terminal according to claim 42, wherein said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band, at the same time point.

44. A base station for performing communication with mobile terminals by using spectrum spreading comprising:

a first modulator which converts a first transmission signal to a first transmission spread spectrum signal by spreading with a code PN assigned to the base station and a code WO;

a second modulator which converts a second transmission signal to a second transmission spread spectrum signal by spreading with the code PN and a code Wi assigned to respective mobile terminals;

a first radio frequency circuit which converts said first and second transmission signals to signals in a transmission frequency band for transmitting;

a second radio frequency circuit which converts a transmitted signal in the transmission frequency band to a received spread spectrum signal;

a demodulator which extracts a received signal from said received spread spectrum signal by de-spreading with the code PN; and

a decoder which decodes said received signal to form a received data, a first power control information generated depending on received power of said first transmission signal and second power control information generated depending on received power of second transmission signal in each mobile terminal;

wherein said first modulator amplitudes said first transmission spread spectrum signal with a constant gain and said second modulator amplitudes said second transmission spread spectrum signal for each mobile terminal with a gain according to said first and second power control information received from each mobile terminal.

45. A base station according to claim 44, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of orthogonal codes which hare orthogonal to each other.

46. A base station for performing communication with mobile terminals by using spectrum spreading comprising:

a transmitting circuit which transmits a first signal spreaded with a code WO and a second signal spreaded with a code Wi assigned to respective mobile terminals; and

a receiving circuit which receives a first and second power control information transmitted from each mobile terminal, wherein said first power control information is generated depending on received power of said first signal and said second power control information is generated depending on received power of said second signal in each mobile terminal;

wherein said transmitting circuit transmits said first signal with constant transmission power and said second signal for each mobile terminal with transmission power according to said first and second power control information received from each mobile terminal.

47. A base station according to claim 46, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

said transmitting circuit transmits said first and second signals with the same frequency band; and

said transmitting circuit transmits said second signal with transmission power that is determined according to the first power control information and corrected according to the second power control information.

48. A base station for performing communication with mobile terminals comprising:

a transmitting circuit which transmits a first signal with constant transmission power and a second signal with variable transmission power depending on communication condition of each mobile terminal; and

a receiving circuit which receives a first and second power control signal transmitted from each mobile terminal, wherein said first power control signal is generated depending on communication condition of said first signal and said second power control signal is generated depending on communication condition of said second signals in each mobile terminal.

50. A transmission power control method in a spread spectrum communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

receiving a first signal and a second signal that are transmitted from said base station, wherein said first signal is spreaded with a code WO and said second signal is spreaded with a code Wi assigned to the mobile terminal;

measuring first received power of said first signal obtained by de-spreading with the code WO and second received power of said second signal obtained by de-spreading with the code Wi;

decoding said second signal to form a received data; and

transmitting first power control information depending on the first received power and second power control information depending on the second received power to said base station.

51. A transmission power control method according to claim 50, wherein said code WO and code Wi are assigned from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band; and

said first signal is transmitted with constant transmission power.

52. A transmission power control method in a communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

receiving a first signal and a second signal that are transmitted from said base station, wherein said first signal is transmitted with constant transmission power and said second signal is transmitted with variable transmission power depending on communication condition of the mobile terminal;

generating a first power control signal indicating the communication condition of said first signal and a second power control signal indicating the communication condition of said second signal;

decoding said second signal to form a received data; and

transmitting said first and second power control signals to said base station.

53. A transmission power control method according to claim 52, wherein said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band, at the same time point.

54. A transmission power control method in a spread spectrum communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

transmitting a first signal spreaded with a code WO and a second signal spreaded with a code Wi assigned to respective mobile terminals;

receiving first and second power control information transmitted from each mobile terminal, wherein said first power control information is generated depending on received power of said first signal and said second power control information is generated depending on received power of said second signal in each mobile terminal; and

controlling transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal according to the first and second power control information received from each mobile terminal.

55. A transmission power control method according to claim 54, wherein said code WO and code Wi are selected from among a plurality of codes which are different from each other;

said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band;

said first signal is transmitted with constant transmission power;

said second signal is transmitted with transmission power that is determined according to the first power control information and corrected according to the second power control information.

56. A transmission power control method in a communication system for performing communication between a base station and mobile terminals, comprising the steps of:

transmitting a first signal with constant transmission power and a second signal with variable transmission power depending on communication condition of each mobile terminal;

receiving a first and second power control signals transmitted from each mobile terminals, wherein said first power control signal is generated depending on communication condition of said first signal and said second power control signal is generated depending on communication condition of said second signal in each mobile terminal;

controlling transmission power of said second signal for each mobile terminal according to the first and second power control signals received from each mobile terminal.

57. A transmission power control method according to claim 56, wherein said first and second signals are transmitted with the same frequency band, at the same time point;

and

said second signal is transmitted with transmission power that is determined according to the communication condition of said first signal and corrected according to the communication of said second signal.
