1. Apparatus for sensing hand and arm gestures, the apparatus comprising:

  • a. hand-held means for continuously sensing gestural parameters comprising (i) momentary pauses between oppositely directed accelerations, (ii) a tempo parameter specifying time between the pauses, and (iii) an emphasis parameter specifying a time-varying magnitude of accelerational force leading to and away from the pauses, the parameters each being expressed as a quantity;

    b. means, disposed within the hand-held means, for transducing the sensed parameters into electrical signals indicative of the parameter quantities;

    c. means for interpreting the signals; and

    d. means for communicating the signals from the transducing means to the interpreting means.
