1. A metallic sliding material comprising:

  • a support member having a sliding surface formed from an aluminum alloy or a reinforcing material-containing aluminum alloy; and

    an inorganic compound coating layer formed on the sliding surface and having a thickness of 0.1 to 20 μ

    m, the inorganic compound coating layer consisting essentially of at least one member selected from the group consisting of molybdenum compounds, tungsten compounds, and chromium compounds, at least one aluminum compound, at least one phosphorus compound, and oxygen present in such concentrations that molybdenum, tungsten, and chromium collectively constitute 2 to 48% by weight of the inorganic compound coating layer, aluminum constitutes 1 to 25% by weight of the inorganic compound coating layer, and phosphorus constitutes 1 to 25% by weight of the inorganic compound coating layer.
