- combining AgO with a vanadium oxide compound to form a mixture;
exposing the mixture to a sufficient temperature for a time effective to form silver vanadium oxide;
forming a cathode comprising the silver vanadium oxide;
providing an anode;
providing an electrolyte; and
assembling the cathode, the anode, and the electrolyte into the electrochemical cell.

This present invention provides a method for forming C--SVO without the need for flowing O2 during its synthesis. A method of forming silver vanadium oxide in accordance with the present invention includes combining AgO with a vanadium-containing compound to form a mixture; and exposing the mixture to a sufficient temperature for a time effective to form silver vanadium oxide.

A method of making a sealed electrochemical cell for an implantable medical device, the cell comprising a lithium anode in electrical contact with an anode can within which the cell components are housed, a silver vanadium oxide cathode, an electrolyte and a separator disposed between the anode and the cathode, comprising the steps of:
