An oil pressure controller for use with a toroidal type continuously variable transmission for a vehicle, said transmission comprising a casing, an intermediate wall provided in the casing, said intermediate wall partitioning said casing into two chambers, a pair of speed change units respectively accommodated in the chambers, oil pressure cylinders for varying a speed change ratio of the speed change units, an oil pan fitted to an underside of the casing in order to store lubricating oil for the speed change units, a strainer disposed in the oil pan for filtering the lubricating oil, said controller comprising:
- a control valve for controlling an oil pressure supplied to said oil pressure cylinders,an actuator,a speed change link for connecting said actuator and said control valve, said control valve varying an oil pressure control state according to a displacement position of said speed change link,a cam for converting an operation state of one of the speed change units into a linear displacement, anda feedback link for varying a displacement amount of said speed change link according to an amount of said unidirectional linear displacement,wherein said actuator is disposed further towards the rear of a vehicle body than the intermediate wall, and said control valve, feedback link and cam are disposed further towards the front of said vehicle body than said intermediate wall.

Abstract
Two speed change units of a continuously variable transmission for a vehicle are accommodated in chambers partitioned by an intermediate wall in a casing. Oil pan is fitted to the underside of the casing in order to store lubricating oil for the units. A strainer for filtering the lubricating oil is disposed in the oil pan. A controller comprising a control valve driven by an actuator via a speed change link, a cam and a feedback link is provided for controlling the speed change ratio of the speed change units. The actuator is disposed further towards the rear of the vehicle body than the intermediate wall. The control valve, feedback link and cam are disposed further towards the front of the vehicle body than the intermediate wall. This arrangement avoids the interference of the actuator and the strainer.
