1. A releasable coupling mechanism for connecting a probe to a movable arm of a coordinate positioning machine, the coupling mechanism including:

  • first and second coupling members connectable to the arm and the probe respectively;

    each of the coupling members having at least one seating element and at least one ferromagnetic element, the ferromagnetic elements being co-operable to bias the seating elements into mutual engagement;

    a release member, connected to one of the coupling members in a manner permitting movement thereof relative to the one coupling member;

    at least one elongate lever, having a driving end and a free end, the lever being pivotally connected at the driving end to the release member and pivotally connected between its ends to the one coupling member, wherein movement of the release member relative to the one coupling member when the first and second coupling members are engaged causes the free end of the lever to urge the coupling members apart against the bias of the co-operating ferromagnetic elements.
