1. A disposable electrode comprising:

  • a smooth layer film having an upper side, a lower side having an adhesive coating, and a first opening said smooth layer film being adapted to interface with a reusable leadwire adapter by means of surface attraction;

    a top layer having an upper side, a lower side having an adhesive coating, and a second opening corresponding to said first opening, said upper side of said top layer is secured to said lower side of said smooth layer film by means of said adhesive coating on said smooth layer film; and

    an electrically conductive patch having an upper side and a lower side and comprising an electrically conductive gel layer and an anchoring layer formed of a porous material having sufficient porosity such that said anchoring layer is laminated on said electrically conductive gel layer, said upper side of said electrically conductive patch is secured to said lower side of said top layer by means of said adhesive coating on said top layer, and said lower side of said electrically conductive patch contacts a patient;

    wherein said disposable electrode does not include a conductive terminal.
