1. A device for treating tissue adjacent to a body lumen, the device comprising:
- a catheter having an outer surface and an outer diameter;
an electromagnetic energy emitter positioned within the catheter;
a substantially nondistensible sleeve having an inner diameter which approximates the outer diameter of the catheter, the sleeve being positioned over the outer surface of the catheter adjacent to the electromagnetic energy emitter, and opposing ends of the substantially nondistensible sleeve being sealingly connected to the catheter; and
means for circulating a fluid between the outer surface of the catheter and the sleeve.

Abstract
A system for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia within intraprostatic tissue surrounding a urethra is disclosed. The system includes an intraurethral catheter having an intraurethral catheter shaft. An antenna is located within the catheter shaft for delivering heat to the intraprostatic tissue surrounding the urethra. Coolant fluid is circulated through a chamber located between the catheter shaft and the urethral wall.

7. A method for treating tissue adjacent to a body lumen, the method comprising:
-
inserting into the body lumen a catheter having a substantially nondistensible sleeve positioned over the catheter, the sleeve having an inner diameter which approximates an outer diameter of the catheter and having opposing ends sealingly connected to the catheter; supplying a fluid between the substantially nondistensible sleeve and the catheter; and providing microwave radiation from the catheter to the tissue adjacent to the body lumen. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9)

10. A method for treating tissue adjacent to a body lumen, the method comprising:
-
inserting into the body lumen a catheter carrying a microwave energy emitter; defining a chamber around the microwave energy emitter by sealingly bonding opposing ends of a substantially nondistensible sleeve to the catheter, the sleeve having an inner diameter which approximates an outer diameter of the catheter; defining a fluid flow pathway in the chamber; circulating fluid through the chamber along the fluid flow pathway; and energizing the microwave energy emitter to deliver microwave energy to the tissue adjacent to the body lumen. - View Dependent Claims (11)
