1. A substituted 2-phenylpyridine of the general formula I ##STR35## where the variables have the following meanings:

  • n is 0 or 1;

    R1 and R3 are hydrogen;

    R2 is C1 -C4 -haloalkyl;

    R4 is halogen;

    R5 is hydrogen, halogen or cyano;

    R6 and R13 independently of one another are hydrogen or halogen;

    X is methylene or carbonyl;

    R7, R8, R9, R10 independently of one another are hydrogen, halogen, C1 -C4 -alkyl, C1 -C4 -alkoxy or nitro;

    R12 is hydrogen, nitro, amino, hydroxylamino, C1 -C4 -alkylsulfonylamino, di(C1 -C4 -alkylsulfonyl)amino, C1 -C4 -haloalkylsulfonylamino, (C1 -C4 -alkoxy)carbonyl-C1 -C4 -haloalkyl or (C1 -C4 -alkoxy)carbonyl-C2 -C4 -haloalkenyl;

    with the proviso that R5, R7, R11 and R13 are not all simultaneously hydrogen or R7 and R8 or R10 and R11 are not simultaneously fluorine,or an agriculturally useful salt thereof.
