1. A pneumatic tire evacuation and inflation apparatus, comprising:
- a) a portable housing;
b) a three way valve positioned within the housing, said valve including first and second valve openings which are selectively, alternatively connectable with a third valve opening;
c) a valve control accessible from outside the housing such that either the first or second valve opening can be selectively, alternatively connected to the third valve opening by manipulating said valve control;
d) a source of pressurized inert gas with an outlet connected to said first valve opening;
e) a vacuum pump positioned within said housing with an inlet connected to the other of said valve openings;
f) a hose connected at one end to said third valve opening and at an opposite end to a tire valve chuck; and
g) a vacuum gauge positioned within the housing and connected to said vacuum pump inlet, said vacuum gauge including a gauge read-out visible from outside the housing.

Abstract
A tire inflation apparatus and method involves first evacuating a seated pneumatic tire via a vacuum pump and then inflating the tire with a purified, dried gas under pressure, such as pressurized nitrogen, without allowing any ambient air to reenter the evacuated tire. The apparatus includes a three way valve which attaches to the source of compressed dry gas, to the tire valve, and to the vacuum pump with a micron vacuum gauge provided for monitoring the state of vacuum within the evacuated tire.
