1. An end cap for an electric motor of the type including a housing defining an internal chamber;
- an armature disposed within the internal chamber and having an armature shaft mounted for rotational movement by at least one bearing; and
magnet means for inducing rotational movement of the armature shaft, the end cap comprising;
an end cap member mountable to the housing of the electric motor, the end cap member including a central hub portion defining a central axis and an outer portion concentrically arranged about the central axis, the end cap member defining a stamped pattern including a series of alternating raised portions and depressions disposed about the central hub portion to minimize vibration energy transfer, each raised portion including an arcuate-shaped raised portion oriented in a circumferential direction and at least one radially extending raised portion coupled to said arcuate-shaped portion, each depression being oriented in the circumferential direction, said radially extending raised portion separating adjacent depressions.

Abstract
A high speed electric motor for automotive applications that is designed to effectively minimize vibration of its component parts and thus suppress noise generated during its operation. The motor incorporates acoustic engineering principles including surface vibration control, acoustic radiation efficiency, active intensity field control and noise control using acoustic materials to reduce overall vibration of the motor components and the motor noise sensed by the passenger of the vehicle.
