1. A method of recharging a lead acid cell, comprising:

  • applying to the cell through a power supply current, wherein said current declines as a function of increasing cell voltage; and

    terminating or converting said current to a maintenance charge, wherein said function is a substantially straight line function, and wherein said function is defined as;
