1. A method performed by a computer system for improving the probability of a successful, subsequent attempt to boot the computer system after a failed system boot, the method comprising the steps of:

  • (a) identifying a cause of the failed system boot wherein the act of identifying comprises;

    (1) assigning identifiers corresponding to the start-up routines that are executed during a system boot; and

    (2) storing the start-up routine identifier corresponding to the start-up routine that fails during a system boot for retrieval during the subsequent system boot; and

    (b) automatically performing at least one of modifying parameters related to an identified cause of a failed system boot and taking evasive action based on an identified cause of the failed system boot.
