1. A colored glass composition, comprising the following oxides within the following limits by weight:

space="preserve" listing-type="tabular">______________________________________ SiO.sub.2 64 to 75% Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 0 to 5% B.sub.2 O.sub.3 0 to 5% CaO 5 to 15% MgO 0 to 5% Na.sub.2 O 10 to 18% K.sub.2 O 0 to 5% ______________________________________ and as coloring agents;
space="preserve" listing-type="tabular">______________________________________ Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 (total iron) 0.45 to 2.5% with FeO content representing from 16 to 55% ______________________________________ of the total iron content expressed in the form of Fe2 O3
space="preserve" listing-type="tabular">______________________________________ CoO 0.001 to 0.02% Se 0 to 0.0009% ______________________________________ wherein the glasses have a total energy transmission factor (TE) less than the light transmission factor under illuminant A (TLA), the factor TE being from 10 to 48% and the factor TLA from 20 to 60% for a thickness of 3.85 mm, said colored glass composition having an excitation purity equal to or less than 7.6%.
