A method of producing catalytic materials which comprises passing (i) a plasma gas and (ii) an aerosol comprising a mixture of 0.01 to 80 wt % of at least one metal powder selected from the group consisting of Pt, Pd, Fe, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ru, Rh, Ag, Os, Ir, Au and mixtures thereof and 20 to 99.99 wt % support selected from the group consisting of silica, alumina, niobia, magnesia, chromia, titania, ceria, lanthanum oxide, praseodymium oxide, high surface area carbides and nitrides and mixtures thereof, through a plasma torch at a flow rate of 1 to 5000 standard liters/min. and at a power range of 100 to 1000 watts.
